Usually in our adolescence, we are exposed to many sudden and
inexplicable mood swings as a result of our body undergoing
various hormonal changes that prepare us for adulthood.

Aside from increased social pressures, the onset of
menstruation, for example, introduces adolescent girls to
premenstrual tension (or premenstrual syndrome) and the
menstrual cramps, the former being a mixture of physical and
psychological symptoms, including temporary weight gain, fluid
retention, depression, fits of temper and the like.

Of these, depression is perhaps one of the most commonly
identified conditions that both males and females attest to,
particularly at the onset of puberty.

Depression is a term we colloquially use to pertain to any
particular period of prolonged sadness and lethargy. Colloquial
use would even allow us to call depression any ‘low’ point in
between periods of ‘high’ or happiness. A popular one-liner,
which many of us are familiar with, even goes as far as saying
that depression is in fact simply anger without enthusiasm.

However, the real essence of depression is the fact that you
can’t simply ’snap out of it’, and that it has the capacity to
disrupt your daily activities. It is characterized by prolonged
sadness, anxiety, unusual mood shifts accompanied by a degree of
irrational thought, pessimism, and is responsible for changes in
the way we eat, sleep, or interact with other people that in
effect incapacitates us from participating in productive
activities.

Depression is deemed a disorder that requires treatment and
attention first because it may be a cause for withdrawal from
society as it gives a semblance of suffering, pessimism, and low
self-esteem. Secondly, depression may cause changes in physical
behavior (like eating or sleeping) that may disrupt regular
daily activities or may be mortally dangerous for whoever
suffers from it. It may also, in effect, harm interactions with
other people, particularly those within the atomic community
(like family and friends).

Lastly, the accompanying decrease in rational thought causes
some people to eventually result to thoughts of harming oneself
or even suicide.

symptoms is a prevalent feeling of inadequateness, hopelessness
and guilt. Altogether, these may lead to thoughts of suicide or
obsession over death and dying.

The fact that depression can happen to anyone including you,
should be enough impetus to better understand depression.

My Creative Writing professor once passed out sheets of poetry. They were in pairs according to genre or topic of the poem. Our task was to pick the poem that had a greater depth to it. The “better” poem - not that the other poem was bad, by the way - and I chose correctly in every case, except one: the correct choice had antiquated language.

I can study period poetry that has antiquated language, that’s the way they spoke back then, but I have a real problem reading modern poetry that uses antiquated language. There are exceptions, but I’ll get into that in a minute.

Before anyone gets their britches in a bunch because they love their “forsooths,” let’s go over some pros and cons.

Antiquated Language CONS

-Difficult to effectively communicate your message to your twenty-first century reader.

-Can seem lofty, as if the writer is trying to be something he/she is not and a portion of trust is lost between the reader and writer.

PRO Antiquated Language

-Adds voice to certain topics

-Can add a comedic effect (as a contrast to the subject matter, etc)

NOTE: these pros and cons can be said for things like: prolific profanity and slang, as well.

Read this poem written in 1849:

Arthur Hugh Clough (1819-1861)
Say not the Struggle nought Availeth

Say not the struggle nought availeth,
The labour and the wounds are vain,
The enemy faints not nor faileth,
And as things have been, things remain;

If hopes were dupes, fears may be liars;
It may be, in yon smoke conceal’d,
Your comrades chase e’en now the fliers–
And, but for you, possess the field.

For while the tired waves vainly breaking
Seem here no painful inch to gain,
Far back, through creeks and inlets making,
Comes silent, flooding in, the main.

And not by eastern windows only,

While this is a great poem as is, it is much easier to understand the parts of this poem not peppered with antiquated language.

Now that I have you convinced you, you have decided to use antiquated language nevermore.

But wait!

There are pros listed up there. Don’t use it “because it sounds like good poetry.” Like any poetic device: If you use it, use it with purpose and on purpose.

Link bypassing is the number one trap affiliates fall into online. Also known as the “affiliate links theft”. This “piracy” costs hard working affiliates promoting programs both time AND money. First, let’s do some simple math if you please:

Say that you are a beginning affiliate. Your income may be $100 per month. Does this sound reasonable to you? It is an example anyway…

So, referring to the study case, you may be losing 100 x 0.30 = $30 per month in sales.

This is $30 in pure loss Each and Every month that’s passing by without you protecting your links.

Or, let’s say you are an active “power charged” affiliate. In this case, your income might reach $2000 per month.

Your loss in sales is 2000 x 0.30 = $600 per month. Hmm…

Finally, let’s suppose you are one of those “super affiliates”! Your monthly income is at least $10.000. Let’s do the math again.

Your loss is 10000 x 0.30 = $3000 each month! Ouch!

Get the picture now? It is up to you to estimate your own losses — I don’t mind if you send me your stats. So I can do the math for you

Seriously. You know how harmful “link theft” is for any affiliate, I have to tell what exactly it is.

So. What Is Exactly “Link-Bypassing”?

You definitely know that your earning commission is in the link you have received from the owner of the affiliate program — a.k.a the merchant.
In other words, you get your money when you make a sale - Assuming you have joined a “pay-per-sale program”. And precisely, you earn money when your visitor ‘clicks’ on your own link and make the purchase!

Right?

If done properly, the visitor hits your link. A cookie (or any other tracking system) will be deposited in their computer. After that, the merchant program rewards you as the sale referrer. So your account is credited immediately. And you receive an e-mail telling you that you have just earned a commission. Fair you said!

Well, that’s the best scenario.

“Link-bypassing” happens when the visitor knocks at your website and notices the service you are promoting. And then she figures out the service “home URL” and specifies it into the web browser’s address bar directly…

In this case, no cookie was deposited in the prospect’s computer. And that means NO referrer… So YOU get NO MONEY.

Huh!?!

You Have Just Been Bypassed!

Unfortunately, this happens everyday and it will continue for the years to come because most of the marketers are not aware of it. Note that this also applies to referring 2nd-tier affiliates. As people want to be at the top of the tree. And they just don’t want to be another member in the downline. Even if it is fair because you worked hard to achieve that!

Am I right?

Don’t get me wrong, “link-bypassing” may be the consequence of a deliberate action of a pirate. But it may also be an innocent action from a curious prospect.
It is a fact, curiosity is a human nature. And you, as an affiliate in the Internet, you have to work with it!
So if you please, let me take you by the hand, and show you how you can deal with link theft.

How Can “link-bypassing” Be Possible?

Because the link you receive when you join an affiliate program may look like one of these:

http://www.site.com/page.cgi?username=yourID
http://www.site.com/?YourID
http://site.com/index.php?referrer=yourID
http://site.com/index.php?sponsor=yourID

All of the affiliate links listed above have got a flaw.

Here it is. Your ID number (or username) is clearly mentioned and the merchant website is quite obvious! Right?
The average visitor can figure out the merchant website easily. And this is not good news.

In fact, the status bar from the web browser shows the URL link when the mouse cursor is pausing over your affiliate link. And it’s at the reach of a “Copy & Paste” operation.

Here is the solution…

The alternative to this, is to add a piece of HTML code to your affiliate link. Actually, it should include this code inside:

onMouseOver=”window.status=”;return true”

What have we done so far? The web-browser’s status bar will remain empty to protect the URL. Okay, that is a good one!

But there is still another dirty trick to get access to your affiliate link. Here it is:
Visitors can open the context menu from your link and hit the “Properties” command. Form there, a dialog box would appear and tell them your exact URL

And there is even another way to your affiliate link: Viewing the source code of your web page…

But, the most important thing to keep in mind is this:

In a “link-bypassing” case, you (the affiliate) are the ONLY losing part in the transaction! Because the merchant gets the payment in full and the customer receives the product he/she has paid for. BUT your commission is simply discarded… Will you continue to stand there and take it?

Don’t you think it’s time to take action and get your share of the profits you deserve?

All you really have to do is mix up your ingredients and put
some into each bag. Many bags will even have drawstring closures
so that you can tie them up to look very pretty.

If you’re inspired, you can include a small card about the
significance of the herbs that you included–perhaps there’s an
old wives’ tale about weddings that is related.

And like it was said before, you can always change the
ingredients to be something that suits you. Enlist the help of
the bridal party if you have a lot to make!

It was a long, long time ago. Sweden, North Europe, Scotland, Ireland, North America and Canada were part of the same mainland. This mainland existed before the crustal plates separated, and before the Atlantic came into being. To give you a reference point in history, my great grandfather was just a young man.

I remember with joy, the historical accounts he impressed on us, as we ate around a primitive butane barbeque. To clarify that, we sat around it eating, rather than eating the grass and sundry bushes around it.

Well, he told us with crystal clarity how he used to cycle from Canada to Sweden in five hours, with no more than one puncture repair kit, and a bicycle, presumably. He didn’t have to tell us every single detail!

The roads at the time, weren’t much like the motorways/highways of today. Instead of the quartz and limestone impregnated asphalt of today, they had a simple sandstone. Incidentally, this was readily available from Japan which was only a few hundred yards away, at the time. Punctures were common place and both courtship and commerce were reliant on a high performance repair kits.

On one particular day, I recall him saying, he went for a cycle to discover new continence continents, and ended up in Venezuela or something. Feeling peckish (understandable after an eight hour cycle against the wind ), he went into a burger joint. He often remarked “Burgers in Venezuela invariably have more grissle (cartilage, in English ) than venison in Boston (American, in America )”.

I’ll never forget his adventurous accounts of punctured rubber, mutilated beef, and Brazilian bicycle clips!

How would such an adventurer find time for my great grandmother to be, you might well ask? Well, she had a few bucks behind her, and some clever measures were needed to guarantee possession (old word for love ). Wait until you see the genius of this globetrotter/globepeddler, depending on air pressure status within the inner-tube.

In a bid to “mask” the stench of sweat (essential for long distance ), he used a “primitive talc” powder, or “de-odorant dust”. By inverting his bicycle and hand peddaling it, he was able to make dust out of any material by pressing it against the high-speed spokes. The material he chose was similar to what we know as conventional coal/graphite/carbon.

Hence, the term “CARBON DATING” was coined.

While a little messy, he invented a perfect product to “soak” the “SOUP of ADVENTURE”.
