From very humble beginnings back in 1973, a photography business was established in Wangaratta, which is a large provincial town in the hub of North East Victoria Australia.
Time has a habit of masking ones involvement in a certain career, and just recently the thirty-year mark was achieved in professional photography for the owner of this studio.
The survival secrets to a long standing career are many and varied, but the ones that have stand out features are; absolute honesty and fair dealings with your customers, being enthusiastic and having a genuine care for your customers needs…. no matter how small that need may be.
Sometimes it is just the small things that customers appreciate, it might be carrying heavy parcels, or framed portraits to their car, or giving them two or three complimentary prints… they are only small rewards, but most customers enjoy them.
Whenever a new business opens in a community, people tend to be a little curious as to the ethics of the people who are operating the business. If you happen to do one small thing wrong during that opening phase, you could suffer long-standing damage to the business as well as the owner’s reputation.
Small things can irritate people and make them have negative thoughts about you or your business.
We always had an in house joke with our customers; we’d say to them “if you really like our work, please tell at least TEN other people!” “But if you don’t like something we’ve done PLEASE tell
us first, we want to make sure that you are 100% happy with our product and service”.
And of course, good customers were always rewarded with bonuses the next time they came in, especially when friends came in and said that “so and so told us to come to your studio for a family sitting”…That is good referal business.
Doing business with people is a two-way thing… as a business operator you need to win to make a profit, but the customer should also feel they have had a win…. that makes them feel happy, and they will talk to others in a positive light about you and your business, you will get plenty of positive feed back.
One of the greatest compliments that photographer can receive is when the child of a parent that you once did work for, calls on the phone to ask, “Could you please photograph our wedding if you have the date available”.
Photography styles & equipment may have changed quite a bit from those early days, but the enthusiasm and challenge is still there, and the basic principles of doing business with another person is still the same as it was at the beginning, because you are really only selling to human nature. Photography is a ever-ending challenge to capture new and exciting images.
There is something very special about covering weddings, simply because there is just so much emotion around, an alert photographer can capture some magical moments of the bride and groom, the emotions are even stronger for the photographer if he also photographed mum & dad’s wedding a couple of decades earlier.
Photographers get an absolute buzz out of that. And that also speaks volumes about the reputation of being sincere, and transacting fair business dealings within your local community.
You should always constantly build absolute trust and credibility
with your customers, they appreciate your trust, and will remain loyal and repay you ten-fold.
Many first time brides simply don’t know how to choose a good photographer for their wedding, for many people it’s all based upon the question of “How Much will it cost me”. Buying photography is much, much more than just basing your decision purely on price alone.
To choose a photographer, the first thing a bride should do is look at a selection of the photographers work either at his place of business or take a look at his web site to get an idea of the different styles that he or she does.
Another important aspect for the bride to know is “what is the photographer like, are they friendly, honest, reliable, and what about on the day of the wedding, what kind of behaviour will he/she present? Unfortunately rude photographers do exist, make sure you don’t select one for your wedding day.
The wedding day belongs to the Bride & Groom; it is not put on for the benefit of the photographer. A good photographer requires good people skills, as well as photography skills to capture meaningful & evocative images.
If you have only had a short association with the wedding industry and your nature is caring, you will begin to understand that it is one of the endearing qualities that will help to promote you to a long-term survival in the wedding industry.
Experience really does count.
Col Croucher.
Creating & capturing images has been a big part of Col Croucher’s life…over thirty years in fact. Weddings & portraits represent a large part of it. But much of that time has been spent on commercial assignments photographing industrial plants, product photography, & aerial photography from helicopters. Col Croucher is the principle photographer of Coljan Photography.

What do George Washington, Benjamin Franklin and Paul Revere have in common? Apprenticeship training, of course!
Apprenticeship training is the oldest kind of job skills learning and has been used for centuries to train blacksmiths, silversmiths, printers and the like. In fact, Congress enacted the National Apprenticeship Act I n1937 to recognize the importance of apprenticeship in developing highly skilled workers in various trades. Apprenticeship is important in manufacturing, public utilities, fire, police, safety and of course in becoming a real estate mogul like Donald Trump!
Learning any highly skilled profession takes more than classroom training. You need hands on experience with someone who is an expert in the field. This is where an apprenticeship can give you what you need to excel at your profession. Apprenticeship fills in the gaps from books to real life and gives you a solid understanding of how a specific process works. Apprenticeship is one of the best ways to develop skills in any highly technical craft.
Apprenticeship usually consists of full time on the job experience where you learn how to do the job in the real world, Here, you will be working with a skilled trainer who will teach you the skills you need. One great benefit is that you get paid while you are learning. You can also take classroom training that are related to your desired occupation.
There are hundreds of different apprentice ship programs and indeed, these programs create some of the most highly-skilled, highly-paid individuals who work at their jobs anywhere in the world.
In the US, such programs are federally approved although each state oversees and administers the details of their programs. Once you complete an apprenticeship training program, you will get an apprenticeship certificate which is recognized nationwide. It is also the credential you will find the most useful and portable within most industries around the country.
Apprenticeship is for those that have a burning passion for their occupation as it is no easy road. Even before you can get start, you will need to have an application accepted and there could be a lengthy wait until an opening comes up for you. While a fantastic opportunity, this is not one to be pursued lightly. It requires commitment and dedication, so think about it carefully before you jump into an apprenticeship program.

Have you already fallen in love before buying that house? It doesn’t favor your position in the negotiation.
Negotiating is sometimes (by adherents of economic game theory) compared with playing poker.
When playing poker you do not show your cards. You look at your cards, and you follow the eyes of your opponents. Can you notice something?
But if you are to negotiate you could show your cards.
Think of buying a house. You can be open about what you favor about the house; the location, the amount of space, the classical or rather modern style, the fact that it has a fire-place, the kitchen, the fact that it is near your work, etc…
The real estate agent or the owner of the house doesn’t know you. Buying a house from a friend is a different game with different rules. So let’s focus on the normal circumstances;
the house owner — and you.
The house owner should want to know what your preferences really are. Also the owner will normally not show his or her cards; how many more people are there “waiting” — although this can be analyzed by the period the house is already for sale — is he or she in a hurry to sell the house? Etc…
You can be open about your cards. You have mentioned to positive aspects, and you can also present the issues you are not too happy about; the overdue in maintenance (windows and the roof), the missing garage, etc.
When negotiating, you can be open about all these cards. What you shouldn’t show is how much you value each of them. And leave emotions out if you can.

Finding the best web hosting company and web hosting package to meet the unique current and future needs of your business can be challenging.
It is an undisputable fact that there are so many companies offering such a variety of web hosting packages today that evaluating your options can be truly overwhelming. Many people think that choosing a web hosting package isn’t a big deal and they don’t give the decision the consideration that it deserves. The truth of the matter is when you are in business and you rely on your website to generate revenue, your web host can make or break your business, so choosing the best web hosting possible is truly critical.
While the needs of your business starting out may be minimal, you never know what the future holds. Undoubtedly, the demands you place on your web host will increase over time as you add more features to your website and as you strive to automate processes that will ultimately save you both time and money. Because the needs of your internet based business will change, the best web hosting company is one that has the capability of expanding the services they provide to you as your company grows and your website evolves.
Some of the most crucial factors to consider when searching for a web host are:
1. Reliability
2. Space
3. Expandability
4. Security
5. Speed
6. Control
7. Reports
8. Unrestricted email services
9. Offsite backups
10. Superb technical support
Reliability is paramount because for a website operator, downtime means lost revenue. Having a website that is down is like having a storefront that is closed. If you are not open for business, you lose business and relatively you lose money. The best web hosting provider will be able to demonstrate and guaranty 99.9% to 100% uptime. Another consideration in terms of reliability is the number of years that the web hosting company has been in business and their track record.
Honestly, all a web host really needs to get started in business is a server and an internet connection. Thus, there are literally thousands launching web hosting businesses that haven’t a clue what reliable web hosting entails. If your web host is not experienced and established, they may be here today and gone tomorrow and when they go, generally your website and everything associated with it is gone with them.
A web hosting package should allow adequate space for the content you will have now and in the future. It should be expandable as your business grows with the capability of providing unrestricted CGI access, SSH and FTP access as well as added features such as databases, scripts and software that supports things like shopping carts, ecommerce solutions, merchant accounts, and real-time processing. If you will use FrontPage extensions, Real Audio, Real Video, Shockwave, Java or similar tools, make sure that your web host supports them.
It is best if your web hosting company has secure server capabilities and can offer dedicated servers with speed that is at least equivalent to a T3 connection to ensure your pages load quickly and your customers’ transactions are secure. It is also important for your web hosting package to provide you with complete control over your website through an online administrative control panel. You should have unrestricted email services with the capability of setting up aliases and auto-responders along with easy access to reports and statistics concerning your website, its visitors and its activity.
The very best web hosting companies also maintain offsite back-ups of your data and information that is stored on their servers to ensure that nothing is lost if they experience a catastrophe or a natural disaster. Last but not least, your web host should provide superb technical support that is knowledgeable, reliable, and perhaps most important, available when you need them.

Get ready because “there’s going to be television out the wazoo!” This
according to Jonathan Klein, the president of CNN - U.S. operations in a USA Today story on the merger of the Internet and television. Major
broadcast networks, cable networks, and content providers are gearing up for the ‘mother of all media battles’ in staking out territory on the new and rising medium called “Internet TV”. Basically it’s video online, which
is not new, but what is new is that the major networks are now getting fully involved. Klein continued, “It will be pausable,
searchable, with all the customizable ‘on demand’ advantages of the Internet. It’s a future that’s not very far away” Klein did not elaborate on how long it will take, what a ‘wazoo’ is, or how a television would fit through it.
CNN has recently changed it’s Internet news business model by trashing the $5.00 per month subscription price for video, in favor of a pure advertising model. The coverage is more extensive, and finally it’s for free. The way they previously baited news junkies was unconscionable.
CNN Online: “Breaking Story: A reporter was caught with his ‘camera on’ as Marines repelled a surprise attack by al Queda in Afghanistan … click here to see video.”
Me: “click”
CNN Online: “First we need you to fill out this form and sign this contract!”
Me: “Oh…shoot me now…!”
I prefer being slowly brainwashed with banners and branding ads, than being harassed to cough up a credit card, don’t you?
CBS News which sat on the sidelines while its competitors ran the table with 24 hour cable news will not be trumped again. They recently opened up
www.cbsnews.com and is investing big bucks in beefing up the video. You can even pick the reports to customize your own newscast.
Nippon TV in Japan is a step ahead in Internet TV and will be offering pay-per-view services by the end of the year. Their marketing department has also come up with a brilliant and creative name: “The Second Nippon Television Network”.
Major
broadcasters like ABC, ESPN, Foxnews, Major League Baseball, MTV, BBC, Telemundo
and others already offer video online with a TV-ish feel but a tidal surge of
new programming is just on the horizon.
Cable TV made room for specialty
channels targeting smaller audiences such as the Golf Channel, and the 4-hanky
super-drama “Bassmaster”, now we can expect Internet TV to diversify even more.
For example, the parent company of HGTV and The Food Channel will launch 10 Internet
channels by 2006, the first one being “The Kitchen Remodel Channel.”
I kid you not. Maybe the first spinoff show will be “The Linoleum Channel”. I’m hoping for the “The Chain Link Fence Channel.”
Netflix, the online movie rental company, is in negotiations with the studios over the rights to broadcast
movie content online. Will the cable industry continue to provide the
cable modem broadband services that allow web-surfers to get movies from their competitors?
Stephen Burke, COO of Comcast believes that web video watchers only want short
clips and doesn’t see any threat to their core business by people downloading
movies. Ned Peabody, a blacksmith in 1890, also said that the horseless
carriage was a noisy smoky bucket of bolts and would never replace the
dependable horse. OK, I made that up, but I bet there was a blacksmith who
said something like that. Anyway, you get my point. If movies can be
purchased for a reasonable price, downloaded quickly, with good quality, and
played on a large monitor, how will that not take a big bite out of the “Movies
On-Demand”, and Pay Movie Channels of Comcast, Time-Warner and other cable providers?
Yes, we’re heading right into the perfect storm of four major influences
conflagrating simultaneously creating ripe conditions for a world wide sea
change!
1) Video imaging technology is coming of age. The picture is reasonably clear now on a computer or TV monitor without squinting and migraine headaches.
2) Broadband use reached 35 million users and is rising rapidly. That means that there are 40% less computer keyboards being smashed in frustration, ripped out of the computer, thrown against the wall and then kicked while the person waits endlessly for choppy video streams. (That stat may be just in my household)
3) Online advertisers are paying big time, spending 11.2 billion this year alone. Entrepreneurs like that “B” word.
4) Most importantly, video storage and streaming is now cost effective and will make a lot people rich. Or should I say, a lot of rich people, richer.
So lets review: …the mother of all media battles…the chain link fence channel…horseless carriages…and a perfect storm. “It’s On!”
Maybe one day we’ll each have our own channel. But if there’s 6 billion channels and still nothing on, what then? Maybe we can go outside, take a hike and get some exercise? Or we can get on our treadmills and watch “The Walking Channel.” Hey, that sounds like a good idea! Here’s the slogan, “Where do you want to walk today?” It’s video and sound on serene paths from all around the world. Trust me, if it’s not available now, it will be. Maybe you’re the one to do it. Send me a percentage!

Podcaster CenterComments Off
Although podcasting is trendy, it’s vital to remember that when you use a podcast for Internet marketing, your podcast is really just another delivery mechanism - a way to get your marketing message across.
Because it is a new delivery mechanism, there’s a chance you’ll get so wrapped in the technology that you’ll forget the basics, the AIDA formula. You need to give people something that they want to listen to, and you can’t go wrong with the AIDA formula. AIDA is used in copywriting, and is an acronym: AIDA means Attract/ Attention, Interest, Desire, Action.
You need to get people’s attention, arouse their interest in your product, get them to want it, and finally take action to buy it.
Using AIDA In Your Podcasts
You can use the AIDA formula to market your products via podcasts in several ways.
Firstly, you can use the podcast to attract people to a Web site where you’re selling products related to the podcast theme. The podcast is the attention-getter. You can have ads on your site selling your products, and include mention of them in the podcast too.
Next, include valuable information or entertainment in your podcasts to make sure that people subscribe. When they subscribe, you can market to them over and over again. This is the Interest factor.
You arouse Desire by mentioning your products and their benefits in your podcasts.
Finally, you need a call to Action, to ensure that people take action. “Buy before midnight on Thursday, and receive _________”
Making Your First Podcast
Making a podcast (it’s really just making an MP3 file) couldn’t be simpler. Here are the steps:
1. Plug a microphone into your computer;
2. Record your podcast using a program like Audacity at http://audacity.sourceforge.net/ (it’s free);
3. Create an RSS feed - more information on that here http://www.ipodder.org/whatIsPodcasting (don’t let the technical jargon make you nervous, the RSS Feed is just a reference enclosure that lets listeners know when you’ve put a new podcast online);
4. Upload the podcast to your Web site, and then upload the podcast’s RSS Feed to a destination like Podcast Alley at http://www.podcastalley.com/ so that you can start getting a mass of happy subscribers.
Get Interviewed On a Podcast
If you don’t want to make your own podcasts, offer yourself as an interviewee on other people’s podcasts. This saves you the trouble of recording your own material and putting it online, and you can promote your products on someone else’s show as easily as you can on your own.
When you create your own podcasts, you’ll want to ask people to join you for an interview too. You can even ask people to send you MP3 files of questions or tips, that you can include in your podcast.
So there you have it: podcasting, another tool to add to your Internet marketing toolbox. If the idea appeals, give podcasting a try.

The troubles of physically going to a physical gaming house can be sufficient reason not to go unless inescapable. All those miles of driving, the troubles, and chores this entails cannot justify the trouble for the mere opportunity to try your luck at physical gaming house, this said should you happen to be the type who lives and breathes gaming houses then heading for virtual casino gambling should be the evident answer. There’s no need for you to leave house to have a go at online video poker or other preferred games because everything will be conducted from your living room assuming you have a servicable computer and an Internet access account. Nevertheless, you will want to read on first because there’s a few suggestions that you’ll want to become familiar with concerning online video poker or other preferred games, particularly so if you are a neophyte regarding this realm.
The very first thing that any clever virtual risk taker definitely will pursue is an online video poker or other preferred games webpage of the kind that promotes high winning odds. Take care to establish the online video poker or other preferred games webpage is connected to a reputable, secure certified public accountants firm so as to assess the official online wagers payout odds in a documented manner. You should make certain the virtual roulette etc webpage is verifiably licensed, for instance by tracking down the govt. approbation on site. If you’re unable to ferret out any govt. approbation on any given virtual roulette etc webpage, do not try to play at this place. Don’t wait! Join in on the web’s best casino tokens games now!
Moreover, another weighty tip is to try your hand at the beginning with minor amounts in place of doling out so much it will hurt right away. First of all, check the stability of this specific virtual roulette etc structure rather than daring to risk any serious menace– particularly so financial ones! The last remark concerning virtual card-playing. It is bound to be to never forget that online betting should be chiefly about pleasurable entertainment and not about making money. Gambling in an online casino is definitely no profession, rather, it is a diversion that can make you chipper and life in general enjoyable. Just having heeded the the recommendations spelled out above, set out and surrender to the magic of virtual roulette etc…

It’s quite apparent that Americans are living longer— and as people age, they request and require many more products and services than ever before. Now, as aging Boomers (born between 1946 and 1964) are coming of age, the fifty-plus population is over 77 million people and growing enormously all the time. And since they control 77% of all financial assets, your mature market share may make or break your business profits.
Every 7 seconds someone in America turns 50. Are you doing your personal as well as professional best to make them your loyal customers, build trust, and receive referrals from satisfied customers? Here are some ways to increase your success and sales with this very diverse group.
In every respect, the 50-plus market is the wealthiest population with major discretionary money to spend on everything from luxury cars, travel, homes, healthcare, gifts, entertainment, grandchildren, etc.
They defy any one “lumped together” label—rather they are unique individuals reflecting their own life stages, lifestyles, physical abilities, household configurations, attitudes and personalities. Cater to each client the way you believe they would like you to behave.
In advertising and publicity, use 12-point type, without serifs, to make reading easier. Use plenty of white space around copy so your message stands out.
Older people are extremely interested in what your product or service does and why you are better than your competitors. They also have the time to read brochures, newsletters, and now the internet to keep abreast of all the facts to make informed decisions.
25 million adults over 50 are regular internet users, with the fastest growing segment 65 and up. 78% of them have made online purchases.
Check the physical layout of your office for safety and comfort. Are the floors even, the door handles easy to open, and aisles wide enough to accommodate walkers or wheelchairs, plus comfortable seating for customers and their families? Make sure that background music is low enough so that it doesn’t interfere for people with hearing disabilities. When facing a client, make sure they are not looking directly into sun glare.
In advertising photographs, display individuals as 10 to 15 years younger than they actually are. That is the way we see ourselves, and you will discourage sales if you portray people as frail and sedentary. Remember, there are many 80- year- olds still on the tennis and golf courses, taking educational classes, and trying new hobbies.
Take the time to get to know your older potential clients. Speak directly to them, answer their questions until you are both satisfied everything is understood. And never, ever talk down to them—their wisdom is priceless. Patience is a virtue, but the results and referrals coming from each one of your satisfied clients will certainly be worth it!
As a mature marketer helping many companies since 1992, I invite you to e-mail me for future mature marketing newsletters. Please place the word “newsletter” in the subject line. Check out our online magazine at

When you hear the word migraine do you think of a disease or a headache? Most people would answer that by saying a headache. Well, they are partially right. Migraine is actually a neurological disease and the bad headache that people associate with migraine is only one of the symptoms of this disease. The other symptoms may include: sensitivity to light, sound, or smell; tingling or numbness; light flashes; nausea or vomiting; difficulty with speech. This is a disease that involves the heightening of one’s senses.
It was long believed that migraines were brought about by caffeine, stress or tension. This is simply not true. The migraine disease is physiological/biological and not psychological. In fact, if was first learned in the mid 90’s that migraine was a genetically based disease and if you have even one parent who has this disease, you have a 50% chance of suffering the same fate. This genetic revelation was further examined by the Australian genetic research team at Griffiths University in Queensland, Australia, where they recently discovered 3 genes for the migraine disease!
Migraine disease affects approximately 32 million Americans, the majority of which are women. The average age of the onset of this disease is between the late teens and the 40’s. However, there are approximately 8 million children that suffer from migraine.
Though there is no cure for migraine there are ways to help manage the symptoms. First you need to understand the difference between headaches and the migraine head pain. The pain from a headache is caused when the blood vessels in the cranium narrow. The pain of the migraine is caused when the blood vessels in the cranium expand. If you take medication that is meant to treat headaches, you may actually make the migraine pain worse because these meds work by dilating the blood vessels!
Management of migraine symptoms:
- There are many different triggers and they can be categorized into two groups-the controlled triggers and the uncontrolled triggers. Red wine, cigarette smoke, chemical smells, and some hard liquor are examples of controlled triggers. Menstrual cycle and weather patterns are examples of uncontrolled triggers. While you may not be able to do much about avoiding the uncontrolled triggers, knowing what they are will help you with managing the symptoms of this disease and avoiding the controlled triggers are a must.
- Abortive medication prescribed that is taken at the first sign of migraine to fend off the attack or lessen the symptoms. This must be taken as soon as you believe a migraine attack is eminent. If taken after the onset of the attack, you may find the treatment to be completely ineffective.
- Preventive medication prescribed is taken to prevent the migraine or reduce the number of attacks. There are some promising new medications on the market but be sure to weigh the risks of the side effects against the attacks. There are also some promising natural products containing feverfew that are worth checking into.
This disease is one of the most misunderstood and misdiagnosed of diseases. Estimates state that between 60-70% of people with this disease will never be diagnosed! Migraine is a serious disease and needs to be treated as such. The migraine disease can bring about aneurysms, strokes, permanent vision loss, and even death when not treated properly. If you have a blood relative with migraine and suspect you may be suffering from this debilitating disease, see your doctor and insist that what you are experiencing is “not just in your head” or brought on by stress! Remember, the medical professionals work for you.
There is some good news, though. With the knowledge of migraine being a genetically based disease and the discovery of the 3 identifying genes, it won’t be long before DNA is used to help diagnose and ultimately treat this painful, disabling disease.

Andrew Brash returned this week from Nepal after successfully climbing to the summit of Chomolungma. Andrew Brash and four climbing guides reached the 29,035-foot (8,850-meters) summit of the world’s highest mountain early Sunday, said Ramesh Chretri, an official with Nepal’s ministry of tourism. With the Chinese preparing for the impending summer Olympic Games, Min Bahadur Sherchan noted that the government’s actions hardly reflected the Olympic spirit. Bahadur Sherchan last attempt resulted in the rescue of Lincoln Hall, an Australian climber who was left by his team in the “death zone.”
Now that Min Bahadur Sherchan has successfully scaled the tallest mountain in the world, he is once again ready to focus on his family. Therefore, he was all too aware of the potential dangers the mountain could bring. Certain parts of the climb are more dangerous than others and it is important for climbers to remain focused “The Chinese weren’t allowing anybody on the mountain. They ended up commandeering it for themselves, even though the mountain is shared by two countries. They basically coerced the Nepali government to not allow any climbers past camp two on the Nepali side. As he planned for the climb, Sherchan told reporters he wanted to inspire fellow senior citizens. He also said many Nepalese have established records on Mt Everest, so it was only fitting that the record for the oldest climber to reach the summit should also belong to a Nepali. Hall was frostbitten and severely disoriented due to altitude sickness. Bahadur Sherchan returned a hero to Calgarians. Sherchan just 24 days away from his 77th birthday beat the age record set last year by 71-year-old Japanese teacher Katsusuke Yanagisawa.
They flexed their muscles this year all the in name of the Olympic spirit, but it was hardly spirited at all.”
He was reported in good health as he began making his descent. His first found him within 226 metres of the peak when his team stopped to help a fellow mountaineer who was left for dead. One year later, Andrew Brash, a University of Calgary alumni, returned to Everest to finish what he had started.
This season mountaineer Anthony Loeff is reporting the scales for the Mount Everest after he reached the top of Mont Blanc earlier this year.
The 75-year-old man from Nepal is now the oldest person to have reached the top of Chomolungma or Mount Everest. Nevertheless, the decision to actualize a long-time personal goal left Andrew Brash with some internal uncertainties, he cited the political actions of China and Nepal as providing the greatest adversity he faced on his journey. More than 3219 people have climbed to the summit since it was first conquered in 1953 by New Zealander Edmund Hillary, who died in January, and Nepal’s Tenzing Norgay.
“Mount Everest this year became a political pawn,” he said with some frustration.
The Chinese were flying their airplanes over the mountain and had Chinese officials in Kathmandu.
