As a bride it’s perfectly understandable that you do not want anything to cut into your wedding dress budget, so it’s smart to look for anywhere else you can cut corners. Your wedding invitations are definitely one item that you can save money on, and you do not necessarily have to sacrifice on having good, quality invites by spending less.

Here are some money saving wedding invitation ideas:

  1. Shop for Discounts: Just like shopping for your wedding dress, do not buy the first set of invitations that you find at the first stationery store. At every store, ask if they have any discounted wedding invitations, particularly those that have been discontinued.
  2. Go Online: There is no need to limit yourself to physical stores; there are a lot of online wedding invitation websites. Plus, there are also plenty of invitation templates that you can you can download if you want to go the DIY route.
  3. Say No to Engraving: Yes, engraved wedding invitations are a classic, but do remember that a lot of wedding invitations end up in the recycling bin after (or even before) the wedding. Engraved invitations are much more expensive, so instead check into thermography which gives a similar (but cheaper) engraved look and feel.
  4. Say Yes to Black Ink: Colors may be lovely, but the ink can be expensive. So choose black ink for your wedding invitations, as there are a certain amount of lines that is already included in the cost.
  5. Keep it Simple: Choosing a classic, clean design is less expensive than cards that have all the bells and whistles. Go for white or ivory versus colored paper. Also skip the extras such as RSVP cards and extra envelopes.
  6. Print Them Yourself: If your printer is stuck in the 1990s then don’t attempt this option at home. However, if you have access to a high-quality printer, then you can save a lot of money by printing the invitations yourself rather than paying someone to do them.

Other tips:

  • Print the reception information at the bottom of the invite instead of paying for separate reception cards.
  • Include your personal details (i.e. telephone & email) on the invite vs. the standard RSVP cards.
  • A popular and growing trend is the e-wedding invite. Or some modern couples have a blog, website, or Facebook page with all their wedding info.
