Comments about New Theories in the Professions and Business!

I recall reading an article in The New York Times which
fascinated me entitled, “Geniuses, Crackpots and a Grand
Unified Theory” by James Glanz. The article basically stated
that even geniuses have some crackpot ideas! It was about
one genius meeting with other geniuses expounding all types
of incredible theories. For instance, Glanz related this story
of Einstein. “Once, in the 1940’s he met for four hours with
Wilheim Reich, who believed that a box called an Orgone
Accumulator could concentrate an energy of which the entire
universe was supposedly composed, and that he thought
could cure human maladies like cancer and impotence.” Dr.
Reich relates, “when I told him, (Einstein) in concluding, that
people considered me mad, his reply was ‘I can believe that,
‘ Dr. Reich wrote in his journal.”

Reich envisioned himself, thinking Einstein was agreeing
with his theory, instead Einstein concurred with the concept
of Reich’s possible madness! So you see even Einstein met
with some very interesting people!

Another comment, “Oddly, scientists who lose their bearings
in one topic are often perfectly sound in the rest of their
work,” said Dr. Virginia Trimble, an astro-physicist at the
University of California at Irvine. Why couldn’t this apply to
Real Estate Professionals who are thinking “outside the
box?” Let’s face it changes in many fields is not even gradual
but cataclysmically annoying.

So please take this theory and expand it to the limits of your
imagination. It is not offering any medical or treatment
advice. This book is a sharing of ideas and thoughts about
what many consider to be elusive, esoteric or strange,
especially in the field of Real Estate. You might try asking
some long time Real Estate Professionals about the
concepts discussed in this book regarding the selling and
buying of real estate. The response should be most
interesting!

I recall vividly over 20 years ago while looking into an
electronic microscope, the fascinating world of viruses!
Looking at these exciting forms and shapes in the
microscope, magnified, hundreds of times, a thought
crossed my mind, why couldn’t there be thoughts which
appear like viruses hidden within the crevices of these
incredible designs? I was attending a unique course at the
University of California in Irvine, when we had the privilege of
utilizing electronic microscopy technology. When I asked the
question if a good virus, thought or even touch transmission,
could transmit impulses to a bad virus, cell, a microorganism
or intelligence. I recall the skeptical look the professor gave
me. But isn’t selling and buying really an emotional
experience.

Even though we associate a virus, transcending thought
transmission, touch impulse, with an infectious process and
non infectious process, why couldn’t there be good viruses
attached to these bad viruses or in some way, related to
them or even some other process or intelligences? After all
there are about 4000 viruses classified, even 200
associated with the common cold. Maybe, just maybe,
various Theories of thought, processes in deciding on Real
Estate and healing applications could be transmitted just like
any other virus. After all, the human eye can see none of
these viruses, let alone thought or certain energy
transmissions? How about the eight intelligences under
Howard Gardner’s Theories on Multiple Intelligences? Also
my theories on Prosperity, Spiritual or Intuitive Intelligences.
The viruses can only be viewed with sophisticated expensive
electronic microscope, but various Intelligences can only be
measured by awareness, accomplishments or various
evaluating systems.

Gardner defines intelligence as “the capacity to solve
problems or to fashion products that are valued in one or
more cultural settings” (Gardner & Hatch, 1989).

What fortified this theory was at the same time I was studying laser medicine and surgery. Since laser is an acronym, light amplification by stimulated emission of radiation, I thought that some Theories on Intelligences, healing, prosperity thoughts and energy transmission, buying
and selling decisions, could be based on, learning, optimism, vulnerability and exposing our inner thoughts.

I was fascinated with the concept of the carbon dioxide laser
but there are other forms of lasers. The sun is the major
source of electromagnetic radiation and laser energy comes
from the visible portion of that electromagnetic spectrum.
This is the portion that stimulates the eye and we see it as
visible light. There’s a great variation in the electromagnetic
spectrum. We don’t see x-rays, gamma rays, radio waves
and a host of other components of the electromagnetic
spectrum. We don’t even see the common microwaves in our
home microwave cooker!

Picture an incandescent bulb where the light is diffused in all
directions, which is called incoherent light. Doesn’t our
thinking sometimes feel a little incoherent? Especially with
the paradox of some buyer’s and seller’s of real estate. Even
though we perceive the light from a bulb as white, it really is
made up of the colors of the rainbow. So, don’t always think
your perception of your client’s and customer’s thoughts may
be a little incoherent! The common light bulb has numerous
incoherent rays in all directions?

Isn’t it our responsibility to help with information for our buyers
and sellers make coherent and beneficial decisions during
any Real Estate transaction?

The difference in laser light is that it is coherent, which means
its wavelengths are not thrown in all directions but that the
photons, the radiation energy, are all in the same wavelength
and in the same phase. When they pass through time and
space, they are parallel, monochromatic, the same color
focused directly which intensifies the energy. View it as
sunlight being focused through a magnifying glass. Wouldn’t
it be nice if we could focus all our thinking processes when
considering real estate, with this intensity, dedication and
energy? I believe we can and do!

Trusting the Cyclotron in your head!

Here’s another thought, just picture a group of atoms, inside
a tube. Picture them, if you will, like little golf balls. Some of
the little golf balls may have stripes around them depicting an
atom as it has a nucleus and electrons circling it. This circle
of electrons could be substituted with positive thoughts or
affirmations. Just picture all these little golf balls sitting in a
tube. Now we pass a source of energy, which could be heat
or light, or in our concept it may be auto-suggestion, thought
transference, or vital energy and it starts shaking these little
golf balls into an excited state. Is it any different with the
multitude of disclosures that need clarification?

As these atoms absorb more energy they start hitting each
other with great force and bounce around in the tube being
deflected by mirrors and hitting one another. Probably no
different than all of us passing on an excited enthusiastic
state of action, to each other or just maybe that exciting state
of love, the locating of the perfect property or whatever our
perception may be? Just think of getting all of these golf balls
excited hitting each other, then all of them flying through the
same opening, in line with the same direction! How about
this energy force being correlated within Multiple
Intelligences? Imagine the power we would have, if we
focused our energies to a specific goal? That goal could be
the final road to escrow and closing. Essentially this is what
happens when the final decision is made on a property. Well,
at least most of the time.

While this brief explanation may be simplistic, I have
attempted to illustrate the possibility of different Theories,
which could be stimulating our curiosity, even our Multiple
Intelligences.

“Think of happiness as a disease. I don’t mean it’s good or
bad, I use the word disease on purpose. It has a negative
connotation, but we talk about disease as a state of non—
health often caused by an infection or by an inherent degree
of damage to the body. This is to say that there is a
characteristic’s state that is usually beyond the control of
happiness is like that. Maybe it happens to you and it is
beyond your control. Maybe it’s a chemical state, and the
organization of your brain, like intelligence and the mixed of
what happens culturally, plays on that.”

At the time I created my web site, I was looking for that one special person that would read something on my site or in my books or articles and become inspired. I was thinking it would move them forward to write or do something really great that would raise peoples consciousness and bring awareness into their lives. It was and still is my hope that I will inspire someone to do great things.

Often I do things with hopes that it will change the world for the better. I have had the thought that people would read my articles and become motivated to do something with their lives and we would all have a sudden shift in right consciousness. I have had many good responses to my site and the articles as can be evidenced in my guest book and letters that I have received. It has been very gratifying to say the least.

My site has attracted many visitors. Some would say that I am successful, and I have accomplished what I set out to do and that was to touch the lives of many people. I am still waiting for that one special person. I have been looking for him/her in my emails and in my guest book and all around me. I have been searching everywhere, out there.

The truth is, that person is much closer than I may now realize.

I have said many times, that I write for myself first, it gives me the opportunity to express in words, what I know intuitively . And by doing so, I achieve awareness and enlightenment. That one special person is myself. The one I have been waiting for is typing this article. He has been there through all of the articles. He is always visiting my site and supporting it. From the position of the silent observer, I can seen where he has come from and where he is now. And it has been truly, an amazing ride.

Still, there is much before me. I still want to inspire this “one,” to do amazing things. I am not at the point yet, where my ego is satisfied that it is me that will do it. I keep looking outward for another. I think, I really want it to be someone else. Although my interest in the site is on and off, I will keep the site maintained and updated while I believe others are still benefiting. September has been a disastrous month for visitors. I have not radically changed anything, and I know the writing is getting better. So where did all the visitors go?

Have I found that person? Is it now time to move onto something bigger and better? How do I measure that? I know that it will come to me as a revelation, it always does and I am still waiting. I love the writing, I know that it will continue. If I am not drawing the numbers to me, than does that mean that I don’t need to anymore? Is my work done? I am wrestling with these thoughts lately. I know other spiritual writers and webmasters, that have come this far, are also questioning what they are doing. We are ready for the next step, and it is the momentum of working on our sites for so long that is keeping us going.

When one has a need or desire to help others, one draws people who need help, to them. When one has a need or desire to give, then one draws people to them that are in need of receiving. When one has a need to write, teach and inform, then one draws people to them that are in need of being informed. It is the way of the universe to make these things happen. When the student is ready, the teacher will come. When the need disappears, then the needy no longer come.

Have I gone full circle? Have I found that one special person? Have I prepared him for the next step? Are there others, or is it that I have been doing this all for me? Is it only me that has gone full circle. When one moves to the next step, only then can he/she look back at the last one. Every step is followed by another and it continuous.

In truth, there is only one consciousness, one soul that is individualized in countless manifestations of itself. So, it is “I” that does things for self. “I,” “I am,” doing all this for self, there is no other. I have been here before and will return many times. Once again, I am chasing my tail. There is nowhere to come from and nowhere to go. I look at you and “I” see “I.” You, the reader are also the writer. We are the same. There is only one of us. “I am,” writing for the one that reads and the one that writes.

Know always that your are doing for self, no one else. They do not exist. Wherever it is that you think you are going, you can not get there. I look around me and see myself in various stages of getting there.

If there was a life’s lesson, it would be that it is the trip that counts, not getting anywhere.

When we talk about the Enchanted Self we are referring to positive states of mind and body that are unique to each of us. We are also referring to the process by which we tap into our Enchanted Self. (The name I have given to this delightful, happy, elevated part of us that knows how to have fun, feel alive and be joyful.) One step in the process is learning how to heighten and how to return to positive states of mind and body. Our memories always assist us.

As autumn flows into winter this a time when most of us prepare ourselves emotionally and physically for the Holiday Season. Many of us have just come off or a great American tradition: Thanksgiving. In fact, I am sitting at my computer right now feeling stuffed–too much pie and too many nuts, sweet potatoes, ice cream and who knows what else!

I am literally thankful to be sitting here, though, already ‘full’ both in the tummy and the heart with more good memories to bank in my personal memory account. I had the pleasure of time with my children and grandchildren and some other dear relatives. The minor aggravations already look smaller as I move away from Thanksgiving, and the good moments look larger as they take a place in my personal story. How can I even further enhance feeling good right now? How also can I get a quick fix of good emotional energies, when I need them, when I don’t feel as great as I do now?

The most important first step is to focus on, review and then ‘bank’ our current positive moments. For example, rather than focusing on how tired I felt this morning as the weekend came to a close, I reviewed all the good moments over the last few days. I used my senses to help me. I remembered visually the pleasant scenes–sitting with family, joking in the car. I remembered sounds–my grandson’s sweet little voice and laughter. I remembered aromas–the smell of the fresh applesauce I made on Thursday. I remembered touch–hugging our cousins. I remembered tastes–the pecan pie brought from Pittsburgh … yum!

So, because I had some current wonderful moments I took advantage of them and literally savored them! I practiced tasting them again and again. I looked for the sensory part of each memory. A very important way to stimulate positive memories is to utilize your senses: taste, smell, touch, hearing and vision. Very simply stated, your senses provide information, which are transmitted to your brain helping you to perceive the world in which you live. You may never have paid any particular attention to your five senses but when focused upon individually or in groups, they can provide the stimuli necessary to recapture positive experiences either to help ‘bank’ them for further review and uplift or to go to your memory bank when you need to and take out some old memories that you can once again enjoy by remembering the smells, tastes, feelings, sights and sounds that went with them!

I hope the above serves as a little ‘present’ for you and that you will try the following play-date with enchantment.

A Play-date With Enchantment Using the Past to Your Pleasurable Advantage

Here is an exercise that can help you to retrieve positive images and sensations focusing on one or more of your senses. Begin by closing your eyes and listening to the sounds around you. Listen for a few minutes. When you feel drawn to a particular sound, stay with it. Allow yourself to mentally wonder remembering to focus on the positive. When you are ready, open your eyes and find an object to hold in your hands, such as an article of clothing. Close your eyes and explore the object, listen to the sounds around you. What positive memories and experiences are evoked by focusing on two of your senses, i.e. touch and hearing. Try this exercise mixing and matching your other senses.

What person can live each day and not face the grave? We all have one thing in common for sure. We can die at any moment, any day.
How can this be inspirational or motivational? Good question.
It is something we all would rather ignore. That is, our own end of life. But if we see that we are here like a vapor that is gone with the morning sun then maybe we can give more. Maybe thinking about our end of life is depressing and paralyzing.

One thing to know about all this is that telling someone you love them, holding the hand of someone who needs support or giving a hug is something that can’t wait.

Yes, are you tired of having everybody (it seems) telling you that you should do this or that? It seems we don’t have enough time to read about all the “things to do” let alone have the time to do them.

It is very true. But what we all need to see is that there are priorities in life that are “priorities of humanity”. These are the basic things that make life worth well…living!
You don’t have to go buy it, earn it or search for it. It is all within you.
It is your capacity to show love, compassion and to share the “real you” that you were created to be.
OK, I sound like a hippie from the 60’s, which, altogether is not that bad! But it is a message that has been going on since people were on this planet.
What has this to do with your short life and death?
You love someone, tell him or her. If you want someone tell him or her you want him or her. If you want then give.
Because life is too short and you will not remembered for what you said but what you did.
Everyday we all face the grave. But take that as a place of transition and not destination.

TAKE CARE,

Wouldn’t it be nice if you had a spiritual counselor that traveled everywhere with you, answering all your questions and guiding you down the perfect path? Well, you do! Take a look in the mirror–it’s you!

Within each of us is our wise higher self, the part of us that connects our human self to our God self. God is everywhere, even in you, but sometimes the connection is forgotten. Our ego tells us that we are only human and that we are all alone. Our ego is loud and overbearing and tells us that we possess no wisdom of our own. Our ego often makes us feel bad or weak. We forget our divinity, our innate strength, power and knowledge. Our connection to a higher power becomes buried and hidden.

To find the guru hidden within, you must learn to listen to your quiet voices and subtle feelings. Many of us have heard or felt this softer part of ourselves. Perhaps you heard this voice when you were driving and you decided to take a different route, and ended up avoiding a collision. Or maybe you had a felling about someone that turned out to be justified. In this busy world, we must learn to become still again and follow our guidance.

One of the ways the higher self can be distinguished from the ego is that the higher self will never make you feel unworthy or weak. The message it brings will resonate with truth and love. Begin to be aware of all of your thoughts and feelings throughout the day. It takes perseverance to be attuned to everything that moves through you, but with practice you will gain control over your thoughts and emotions, and this is a splendid gift indeed. Post reminders to yourself to stop and become aware of your thoughts and feelings. Soon you will be able to do this without really stopping what you are doing. You will begin to hear the soft, peaceful whisper of your divine self.

I also use a meditation to connect with the higher self. Plan some time to sit down in a quiet place and try the following. Take a breath into your chest, noticing the taste, smell and feel of the air. Take another breath like this, savoring the air as it brings life into your physical body. Next, take a deeper breath, this time inviting the air down into your belly, letting your belly swell outwards as far as it will go. Imagine now that the air is alive and sparkling and colorful. Notice what color it is, and see in your mind’s eye the sparkling air come down your windpipe and into your belly, swirling and caressing you with unconditional love. Allow the breath to be released slowly.

Take another deep belly breath, and this time imagine the sparkling light permeating every cell of your body. See it travel from your head to your toes, softly dancing. Notice any feelings you have in a particular part of your body. As you continue your conscious breathing, allow yourself to visualize the light spreading outwards beyond your body like a bubble. Continue this expanding until you feel it has expanded enough, then stop and simply allow yourself to feel the energy you have created. Now, in your head, say the following: Higher Self, please connect with my physical body so that I may hear your wisdom. I am ready to remember my divine power and purpose. Notice any reply you may receive or feelings you have. Spend another few moments feeling the energy you have created. If you desire, play with the energy, rolling it around different parts of your body, focusing it in certain places. Feel your power and feel love for all parts of yourself. Now, slowly come back into the room, taking all the time you need, with the knowledge that your Higher Self is now consciously present.

If you are determined to become aware of your deeper thoughts, feelings and intuitions and consciously play with developing better listening skills, you will soon find that you feel more centered and connected to the powers that be. You will discover the wise and ever knowing guru within you, and remember that you are never ever alone! Look within yourself for answers and you will be surprised how talkative your higher self can be.

It’s pretty obvious that the ancient Druids used several forms of meditation. That the Druids were able to still and control their minds is unquestioned, but the techniques they used have apparently been lost to the ravages of time and the lack of written records.

As with much of the re-creation of the Druid paths, we find ourselves turning to other cultures and methodologies to fill in the gaps. Before the cries of “Untraditional” become too loud I think I should point out that meditation and mind control/self awareness are universal to the human being. Everyone who’s ever lived on this planet has had the ability to access their inner energies and power to varying degrees.
Today we find ourselves without the social framework of the ancient Druids. Rather than a single unified entity we find that our Tribe is scattered to the winds without a common language or concept of what it means to be a Druid. It’s a period of creation and re-creation and thanks to the easy availability of printed sources and the internet we find that once again we can begin to study and put together systems for training Druids.

Meditation and energy work are areas where many of the modern Druid Circles seem to be lacking. Anyone who’s ever been to any sort of ritual can attest to the feel of the energy that rises during the ritual. As I dabbled in and then studied energy work I discovered that it was much easier to feel when the ritual energy actually formed and then began to rise. One of the problems that I’ve found when attending various Pagan and Wiccan rituals is the lack of focus on what to actually DO with that energy. I recently attended a very nice Wiccan Solstice ritual. The energy rose very nicely into a crescendo towards the end of the ritual and hung there expectantly. Then the ritual ended with the energy still active. After the ‘end’ of the ritual everyone in the circle kept standing there for a few moments, intuitively feeling the energy and reluctant to leave it.

Many Pagans seem to view meditation as interesting and cool, but not really a part of their path. I couldn’t disagree more. Rituals and spells are all about creating a focused energy and then sending that energy to DO something. The ability to clear ones mind and sense and feel energy at an advanced level can not only enhance the energy that you create, but it can improve your ability to focus it and use it.

In my upcoming articles on Druidry I’ll include several exercises for feeling the energy of the natural world around us and even drawing that energy into ourselves and using it. Before you get to that point, however, it’s important to be able to feel your own energy and use it. Rather than re-invent the wheel my purpose with this article is to point out the necessity of using meditation and focused energy. The next few articles in this series will show you exactly how to do that.

Now is the time for balance! Without balance, life lacks true beauty. Without the balance of leisure and work, the practical and the spiritual, love and law, experience and innocence, night and day, life lacks true beauty and our happiness is only momentary.

The universe exists on the principle of opposites, extremes polarising and balancing each another. The ‘middle way’ as described by Buddha, in essence is a balanced life. Balance does not come by thinking alone, we must also do. For instance, a good idea is only “good” when implemented. The intellectual becomes balanced with the practical.

Inner balance works along the same lines. Many of us look for this elusive thing called enlightenment or self-realisation. By thinking about it, we don’t necessarily experience it. By being, we do. Being who I really am initially requires knowledge and contemplation on “who am I?” This act moves us from searching to being co-creators. By feeling the truth of the self as the image of love, the image of peace, the image of purity, that is, by experiencing the self in this way, our thoughts are automatically coloured by these attributes, and so one day, we become. We need to actively balance our head and our heart, our intellect and our pure feelings (intuition).

The soul who knows how to live practically as well as dream is one who is materially and spiritually satisfied, for material gain alone does not bring true happiness

Our inner world becomes enchanted by thinking positively and honouring the truth, while lasting happiness comes from living our values. Personal inner discovery becomes fertile through contemplation, concentration and meditation, the essential keys to our journey along the middle path. And the fruits can be enjoyed by all as I begin to spread that peace.

This week take time out and reconcile your inner balance, knowing very deeply that it is indeed like walking a tight rope; in need of intense dedication and stamina as well as an elegant and refined gracefulness.

“Don’t just do something – stand there.”

Well, that is the actual difference between “Successful” and “not so successful”; “Achiever” and “non-achievers”; “Extraordinary” and “Ordinary” people…they put in EXTRA efforts…EXTRA hard work in each and everything. The word extra is not defined…it means “thoda sa jyeda” (A bit More). All successful, all achievers and all extraordinary people have few common things, they are:

1) Dream to Chase (A direction to move on…a focused life)

2) Never say die attitude (They are determined to be “Successful”. They move on inspite of failures and setbacks)

3) Move away from their comfort zone (They are ready for change)

4) Have ability to bounce back (Take criticism, setbacks and even humiliation in positive manner)

5) Willing to work hard…not in patches but continuously over a period of time.

6) They have their own principles, values, ethics and culture. They are also humble and don’t let success to get into their heads.

7) They are always ready to take new challenges and don’t get carried away by past glory and achievements. For them, each day is new…each opportunity is new challenge.

8) And last but not least…they are good human beings…they practice “Humanity”.

So, do you think that being “Extraordinary” or being “Achiever” is a difficult task? I don’t think so because I know that there is inside you all of the potential to be whatever you want to be all of the energy to do whatever you want to do. Imagine yourself, as you would like to be, doing what you want to do, and each day, take one step towards your dream. And though at times it may seem too difficult to continue, hold on to your dream. One morning you will awake to find that you are the person you dreamed of doing what you wanted to do simply because you had the courage to believe in your potential and to hold on to your dream.

I believe that successful people are those who continuously work diligently and so determined to get WHATEVER THEY NEED, WANT OR ASPIRE TO BE, despite the obstacles, hurdles, challenges, and failures in the process and that because of these philosophies they get whatever they want most of the time.

You have three decisions that determine your destiny.

 What to focus on.

 What things mean to you.

 What to do to create the results you desire.

That’s what you did in the past, and that’s what got you where you are now.
But guess what? Your past is NOT your future. Your present IS. What are you presently focusing on? What do things mean to you right now? What are you going to do to create the results you desire? I hope that a very bright is awaiting you.

Have a great day and fantastic week ahead.
Take care of yourself and enjoy your life.

When life’s largest pressures leave you struck dumb,

Just search for an answer; the solution will come.

When a tragedy occurs leaving you feeling numb,

Just wait for your health; the strength will come.

When everyone relies on you and there is no way you can see,

Trust your mind to think with time; patience is the key.

When you have made it where others always flee,

Just wait to gather courage; soon you’ll be where you want to be.

When it is nearing the end and you’re in need,

Muster up your courage; endurance will lead.

IT WILL COME

It was back in 1994 that I was a strong 17 year old boy who had the world in the palm of my hands!

In other words…

I was the most successful running-back on any high school football team in my home county

I was a center-fielder for one of the Baltimore Orioles’ semi-pro baseball teams

I played baseball for the Babe Ruth League

I ran track

I wrestled

I also played basketball for my high school

It was in the middle of June in 1994 that I had been summoned to appear in court to serve trial for 8 tickets or traffic violations.

My friends & I knew that I would most likely lose my driver’s license for a long time so we all decided to throw a party in honor of my supposed ‘last night with a license’.

Reportedly, I was up all night having fun at this party and tried to drive home at about 4:30 the next morning.

I guess I made the drive successfully up to about the last mile before my parent’s house when I fell asleep behind the wheel.

It was just my luck that I fell asleep at the top of a big hill with a long, downward straight-away because my foot relaxed on the accelerator and caused my car’s speed to climb to about 80 mph (miles per hour) before I drifted off the left shoulder of the road.

My front left tire then dropped down into a ditch and smashed into a culvert pipe that ran under a driveway.

This culvert pipe caused my car to be violently thrown up in the air, flipping end-over-end at 80 mph and then landing on it’s roof in the next driveway.

Luckily for me, the man who owned the driveway with the pipe my car had smashed into was awake and he heard the horrific sound. The man was then able to quickly dial the national emergency number or 9-1-1.

When the EMT (Emergency Medical Team) arrived on the scene, the head nurse radioed the local hospital to ask the advice of the doctor-on-duty. She was told that, ‘It sounds like the boy will either die or be a paraplegic for the rest of his life, stop CPR!’

It was in my favor that even though that head nurse didn’t know me personally, she knew of me through a friendship she had with my mother and she refused to stop giving me CPR!

That same head nurse was also faced with yet another tough decision!

She was forced to decide whether or not to radio for the ambulance - which would only take me back to the same hospital that had just recommended she let me die - or to radio for the Medi-Vac Chopper to fly all the way up from the heart of Baltimore to Cecil County just to transport me all the way back.

I’m not sure how she did it or what led her to make the decision she made but that head nurse chose to radio for the Medi-Vac Chopper!

As hard as it was to believe that a head nurse would take the chance of waiting for a chopper to fly that distance to get me, it was even more unbelievable that the Medi-Vac Chopper was already airborne and on its’ way to a medical show in the nearby state of Delaware, placing it about 20 seconds from the scene of the accident.

My family was also notified by the attending police officer and they came as quickly as they could.

That Head Nurse’s Decision-Making Wasn’t Over Yet…

Once I had been loaded onto that Medi-Vac Chopper, the head nurse also had to decide whether she wanted to leave me in the able-but-strange hands of the medical personnel on that chopper or if she wanted to fly all the way to Baltimore to administer CPR to her friend’s son herself.

I have a feeling that the medical personnel on that chopper would not have been so diligent when my heart stopped beating on 3 seperate occasions and I would be dead if that woman wouldn’t have flown to Baltimore with me to keep administering CPR by her own choice.

I was still unconscious when the chopper landed on top of the ‘Shock Trama Hospital’ in Baltimore and the doctors decided that I was in a comatose state.

My family was on their way to ‘Shock Trama’ and arrived shortly after the chopper had landed but I can only imagine how hard it was to be told that ‘your first-borne son is in a comatose state and will not live through the day’.

Three days after my accident, I was still in a coma but I was very much alive!

The doctors then predicted that I would remain in a coma for the rest of my life.

I can’t get into everything my parents did while their son spent the next 40 days in a coma but I’m sure you can imagine what you would do if you had a son who was loved by everyone and he actually lost his life 3 times from a severe auto accident.

After the 40-day coma…

The doctors had predicted that I would remain in a coma for the rest of my life but when the monitors started to pick up an increase in brain activity, their prediction changed! They told my family that it was very unlikely that I’d ever walk or talk again and I was transported across the city to the Sinai Hospital.

Well, I’ll just say that the doctor’s prediction of my supposed recovery changed again after I mumbled a few words & stumbled a few steps. They then said that I would most likely never graduate from high school and “IF” I ever did, it would be years after my graduating class.

Finally Free!

- I had spent 40 days in a coma…

- Then, for the next 2 weeks, I was stuck in the hospital bed and didn’t have enough physical strength to be transported into a wheelchair…

- Once I could finally be lifted from my bed and set in a wheelchair, that was my only means of ambulation or getting around for about 5 months…

- I was then able to advance to the use of a walker to get around and that lasted for about 2 months…

Next, I advanced to the use of a mere cane to walk with and it was just about that time that my parents decided to withdraw me from the Sinai hospital in Baltimore, MD so they could enroll me in out-patient therapy at the Alfred I. Dupont Hospital in Wilmington, DE.

I continued therapy & recovery at A.I. Dupont for about 5 months and during that time, I was able to complete the school work I had missed for the first 3 marking periods of my senior year.

I was, in fact, able to walk across my home high school’s football field - unassisted - to be handed my high school diploma and it was with my graduating class of ‘95.

When the principle handed over my diploma, it caused the parents in the bleachers to stand to their feet and give a standing ovation as well as many loud cheers.

Faced with very few options…

Ok, great! I was a high school graduate and no one thought I could do it but what in the world would I or could I do to earn a living for myself, now that I have several physical limitations?

I discovered that my home state would pay my college tuition since I am now considered to be a handicapped person in the state of Maryland.

So I went to the nearby community college to take classes and that only lasted for about one semester before I just stopped going. They didn’t have anything that really held my interest, to be honest!

So I spent a few months trying to work a few different jobs but of course, they all had to ‘let me go’ after I would damage some type of merchandise because of my lack of balance.

I even tried going back to college a second time to study AutoCADD (Computer Aided Drafting & Design) but that didn’t last either.

My Second Brush with Death!

When I had returned to college for the second time, I was able to rent a small apartment in the same town where the college was located which was the same town my parents lived in, and that is where I grew up & went to high school.

One cold day in January of 1997, I decided to carry a load of laundry to my parent’s house so I could wash it since I didn’t have my own washer & dryer.

I had walked about a quarter mile out of town in the direction of my parent’s place when it happened.

The last thing I remember was yelling across the road to ask someone if they could give me a ride when everything just went dark!

When I came out of it, I found myself in a hospital bed once again but this time, I had a full leg cast on each leg.

In order to explain how it happened, I need to take you back to when I was standing on the side of the road, yelling to the car on the other shoulder.

There was some lady driving a big Lincoln Town Car and she was flying up the road behind me at about 65 mph.

This lady had a child in the back that wasn’t in a car seat and she was turned around to correct the child causing her attention to be on anything but the road.

For this reason, the lady didn’t see me standing on the side of the road when she veered off onto the shoulder and the front bumper of her big Lincoln Town Car smashed into my left knee with enough force to send me up into the air while the lady & her car ran off into the bushes.

Blood Covered Road…

Reportedly, the entire road where I had landed was covered with the blood squirting from my left knee.

You see, when that big Lincoln Town Car collided with the left side of my left knee at about 65 mph, the pressure was not only enough to throw my whole body up into the air but the force was great enough to shatter both the fibula & tibia bones at both the knee & the ankle of both legs, giving me 8 shattered joints all together. That was also the reason my blood was squirting all over the road - the bones had ripped through the outer skin of my left leg.

It was once again my good fortune that the doctor-on-duty at the Chrisitana Hospital in Christiana, DE (yes, I was air-lifted to yet another hospital) was an orthopedic specialist and was able to place each leg - with 4 shattered joints each - in a full leg cast.

So now my future looked even more dismal or disappointing but I came upon a Google Ad that sent me to a company that changed the way my future looks for me!

The Way it is Now…!

- I am completely able to walk with no assistive devices

- I am completely able to speak and very clear

- I am completely able to operate a motor vehicle safely as well!

My Remaining Limitations…!

- Because the bones in my legs were not set exactly the way they were at birth, I will never again be able to run

- Because of the damage to my throat, I will never again be able to sing in the shower *smile*

- Another problem the damage to my throat caused is the fact that I am unable to hold my breath under water, which is bad since I once worked as a lifeguard.

Although, a short while following my major accidents, I was able to create an incredibly successful web site and you can click the link below to see it and learn more about me…

Most of us, at one point or another, take a moment to evaluate our lives and the paths that we have chosen to take. We each do it at different times and with different emphasis. Sometimes people do it around high school or college graduation time, when deciding what career to pursue, how we want to be regarded by society, friends, and family or how to transition ourselves from a student to a grown up.

Some people do the evaluative process when planning for a family. Sometimes it takes the illness or death of a family member, or some other tragic event to make us stop and see if we are taking our life in the right direction.

For many of us, however, hitting a certain age can cause one to stop and take pause. This happened to me last summer. I had just hit the big 3-9 and I realized that in less than one year I would be 40 years old. Now, I have been saying and believing that today’s 40 is yesterday’s 30, but I was still a bit shocked at the prospect that I would soon be what I had always considered middle aged.

Part of the problem for me with aging is that I never “feel” my age. I have this preconceived notion about what a person should be feeling or doing at a given age. I am always surprised though that I never match up with what my notion is. I have also realized that no one ever wants to be their real age. If I ask my kids how old they are they always want to round up… my daughter doesn’t turn 9 for a few weeks, but today she is nine if you ask her. Teenagers try everything to look older, sometimes even getting fake IDs to get into clubs and bars. Then once we hit 21, that magic age of “real” adulthood, something happens and we start to feel like we should begin shaving off years to continue to be young. The older we get the more years we shave off.

So in turning 40, I started to think about what that meant. My husband has been busting my chops because I am getting “old”, (I turn 40 two weeks before he does, something he finds great delight in!). I remember that when my parents turned 40, I thought that it did seem old. Today, I don’t feel like I thought 40 would feel. I certainly don’t feel old; I certainly don’t feel like 20 either! So how am I supposed to feel? How am I supposed to act? Do I have to be more serious and mature? Am I suppose to start looking into botox, or getting plastic surgery? Should I start buying sensible shoes? Do I need to start stocking my medicine cabinet differently?

In making the decision about how forty feels, and who I was going to be as a forty year old, I had to first look at who I was and how I currently felt. I have been plagued by a gnawing sense of insecurity since childhood, something that I have tried to work on for years. I didn’t always like myself and found it hard to have confidence in myself or my work. Friends and family would often be frustrated when paying me a compliment because I never wanted to believe them. I thought that they were only saying the words to be nice. But for some reason, turning 40 is making me look at my life and the things that I have accomplished differently. What I am realizing is that I really do have some good stuff under my belt. I am realizing that I am the only one holding me back and that I can have another 40 remarkable years if I let myself. I am beginning to truly believe that age is only a number and that the soul is only as old as you feel. In my research, there aren’t any hard and fast rules for how 40 acts or thinks or feels. So, I have decided to create my own definition, feel free to borrow it if you like!

I want to go to the park and run with my kids and play tag. I want to swim in the summer and sled in the winter. I want to go to a rock concert with my husband just because he asks. Or snuggle up in front of the fire because he didn’t. I want to like myself and the life that I live because I am choosing to do so. I don’t want someone to tell me that I need to act my age, I want them to be envious that I don’t. I am choosing to believe that I am worthy of friendships, love, happiness, and any compliment that someone chooses to offer. I am embracing the fact that I am going to be 40, and I am going to feel great about starting a new page in my book of life. I am choosing to go after what I want and if I don’t get it, I will choose not to let it devastate me. When that happens, I’ll pick up my behind and go after something else. I want to feel alive and proud and energized by my family, friends, and my own desire not to be a couch potato. I want to feel like dancin’. (Ok, maybe I am getting a bit carried away, but I think you get the point!)

I have never been one to focus much on my looks or to worry much about my style. Don’t get me wrong, I like to look good and stylish, but I never had the money it takes to do it up great. I am a fairly simple person and have no intention of changing that fact, but turning 40 does make me take a realistic look at the image that I put out into the world. I see this time in my life as an opportunity to possibly recreate myself, or minimally make sure that what I am I want to keep.

One thing about my image that I know that I don’t want to keep is an extra forty pounds I have been carrying around. After three children and years of eating whatever I wanted and not making exercise a priority in my life, I realize that not only was I setting a bad example for my kids, but I was looking pretty dumpy doing it. I constantly complained about my weight to my husband, who would look at me and say “what are you doing about it”. It was a legitimate question, but coming from a guy who can eat anything, doesn’t do a lot of structured exercise and still maintains his slim college weight, I was bitter to answer his question. Unfortunately, the reality was, I wasn’t doing anything but making excuses and being depressed. My birthday made me aware that enough was enough. I needed to take control and make my health a priority and get my weight in check. I didn’t want to be 40, and 40 pounds overweight. I want to be an active part of my kid’s life and carrying all this extra poundage around wasn’t allowing me to do that. So, I am changing my lifestyle. It really is about making a total mind change not just a diet change. I make time for exercise. I do the exercises that I like to do not what I think I should do. I have a couple of buddies, who I am committed to supporting and who are committed to supporting me. We are making a great team and we are all excited about the changes we feel and see in our overall health and wellness. I admit that making time for exercise is easier now that I work from home, but I also realize that I cannot make anything an excuse for not being good to myself.

I am also trying to eat wiser. I still enjoy a good bowl of ice cream, or a chocolate candy, but I savor the smaller amounts that I allow myself to have, and I do it less frequently. I try to eat more green and orange foods, and less white. I also realize that I can be satisfied with less food, and I don’t have to eat until I puke. It is easy to say and harder to do, but everyday I renew my commitment to myself and my goals, and so far it is paying off and coming off!

My relationships are another area that I am examining. I need to make sure that those people in my life know how important they are to me. I have a large number of acquaintances, but only a few true and close friends. Those friends have made a huge impact on how I live my life and some of the decisions that I have made over the years. They need to be recognized as the truly vital part of whom I am and who I will yet to become. My husband is one of the most important people in that category. I have been married to him for 13 years and I think that my marriage is as strong if not stronger than when we were first married. My husband and I have watched marriages of friends and family struggle, some even ending in divorce. I am not naïve enough to believe that it can’t happen to us, so I am making a new commitment to him and our marriage. Every couple with kids knows how easy it is to let the romance and intimacy of marriage take a back seat to the care of your children. My kids are very important to me, but I also know that if I don’t focus more on my marriage and myself, I won’t have anything to give to my kids. I want to be a good role model for my kids when it comes to relationships. I also want to be a good wife for my husband. Relationship experts talk about the importance of date nights, but we have a tight budget and it doesn’t always allow for traditional dates. My goal is to be more creative in our dates. We can have candlelight dinners at home after the kids go to bed, even if we are having hamburgers. We can create a spa atmosphere in our own bathroom tub. We can write love letters or poems to each other, something we haven’t done in years. Our love is strong and I know that only constant attention and creative thinking will continue to foster its growth.

I AM 40 AND PROUD! I hope that when I turn 60 and start to evaluate my life again, I will look over the previous 20 years and see accomplishments, advancements, and wonderments that are only dreams now. I hope that I see that I was happy with my life, and myself. I want to see that my family and friends continued to bring me joy and completeness, and that I have shared more of myself with them. I hope to see that I have continued to grow personally and professionally and that I have more in my life to be grateful for. And mostly I hope that at 60 I feel as great and proud as I do today!
