The internet has bridged and connected people around the world. It allows you to talk to the other person from another continent across the globe. It is a marvelous technology and tool in this modern age and time. You can make lots of money online by selling digital info products and other tangible items through eBay. You can even bid for freelance jobs and write articles for your clients across the world. All it takes it using the ubiquitous email programs like Outlook or Gmail account. Likewise, music has been shared online and uploaded to some web sites such as www.audiobiblio.com.

On top of sharing and uploading music, you can also make new friends with people around the world. You can browse their profiles, gender and location and send them a message like thanking them for the music that they have uploaded to www.audiobiblio.com. This is a site that connects people and music. Music enthusiasts will love this site for its nifty features such as uploading music files up to 20GB in size and sharing them. You can then listen to music from the internet café on in your lap tops as you are traveling.

It has been known that listening to music is very relaxing and calms the weary soul. It helps to release feel good hormones known as endorphins to the brain cells. You will feel less depressed and stressed when you turn on the music, preferably sentimentals and oldies. And you can also listen to music from the comforts of home by browsing through www.audiobiblio.com.

People are also more productive and more alert when they listen to music. Students under exam pressures listen to music as they mug and study hard to pass exams. Music can be played from anywhere, in your homes, your offices, in the car, or just hook up to the internet with the lap top.

It was Christmas Eve last year that the car carrier, Tricolor, was issued with a wreck removal notice. Having been crashed into by a ship trying to overtake it, it has been lying there a wreck ever since. I know how it must have felt.

I was issued with a wreck removal notice on Christmas Eve also. I felt a wreck, that much is true. I’d been at that vodka the night before, the one that had made the local papers because it was dangerously wrong, overly strong and should you have any in the house, to take it straight back for a product recall scenario. Hmm …

So there’s me sorting out the tree, with the kids belting around the house and this letter of eviction comes through the door saying:

“I am sorry to have to inform you that the landlord has decided to sell the property in the spring and therefore will not be renewing your tenancy at the end of the initial six-month period.”

The letter went on, apologetically as the waves broke over my upturned bow… I never could wrap presents. That one about the bow was tenuous, I’ll grant you. Still, let’s press on, eh?

A couple more ships ran into this car carrier before the shipping lanes got the message and gave it a wide berth, so to speak. The second of these ships being a tanker carrying kerosene, a substance only marginally less dangerous than that vodka I’d been at. This tanker got itself rather ignominiously stuck on top. The kids caught sweetheart in a similar position but there we are. It was Christmas. I’m sure they’ll have forgotten by now.

Well, it would appear that at last holes are being drilled in the ships hull, with a view to its eventual removal sometime this coming autumn. And as I type this, I can hear drilling coming from the garage as my new landlord slowly gets my new accommodation finished.

It’s now June and we moved in on February 28th and still he drills away aimlessly, every other week, for a couple of hours and I think I know how that damn ship must feel.

The misery of eviction is bad enough. In my case, a solution has been found. As we waded through the flood that had appeared at our new front door on the wettest day of the year so far, the waves listlessly, muddily seeping round the front door, at least it’s a roof over the family’s head.

And of course there’s the white horses. From the back of the house we have them galloping around doing it all very well and gracefully but come October the Tricolor will remember the white horses as just a fond and distant memory.

(Never look these gift horses in the mouth. I had no idea how to tie this one up but I think that last bit just saved me.

And you.)

There is over $120,000,000,000 spent on lottery systems along across the US and around the world. Yes, that’s one hundred and twenty Billion on just lotteries not to mention the billions spent on other gambling systems.

Massive jackpots are dangled in front of players but the only ones who truly win in most gambling/lottery systems are those operating them because of 3 dangerous characteristics. Let’s review them:

1.)Odds stacked against the players

Traditional gambling/lottery systems only win when the player loses. They continue to generate massive amounts of front-end profits and heavily stack the odds against the players to minimal back-end payouts are necessary.

If you’re going to gamble, at least do a little research and determine which of the systems provide you with the best chance of winning and learn everything you can about ways to increase your odds.

WeeklyWinning.com is specifically designed to place the odds in the favor of the players. Increasing jackpots, guaranteed winners, instant winner bonuses and a 65% payout are just part of the way we make sure players win. WeeklyWinning.com odds of winning can beat the Power Ball drawing by at least 3,067%.

WeeklyWinning.com only wins because the players win.

2.)Addicted to more chances to win

Since the odds are stacked against you winning, a psychological trigger gets set off in your brain that makes you “want” to find more chances to win.

This burning desire to seek more and more chances to win is a natural human reaction. It’s a true addiction with feeling the “winning” sensation. People will actually pay $1,000, win $100 and feel “good” because they won something without realizing they actually lost money.

In traditional gambling/lottery systems the only way to quench this desire to win is to get more chances to win which means… spend more money. Traditional systems require you to pay for each chance to win.

At least research the systems and find the one that offers you the most chances to win for each entry you purchase. Give yourself the best chance to win with the least money spent.

WeeklyWinning.com offers you unlimited chances to win without costing you any additional investment. Paying a very minimal member fee entitles you to:
1.)One chance to win the guaranteed Jackpot
2.)Unlimited chances to win the Instant Winner Referral Bonus
3.)Unlimited chances to win the Instant Winner Jackpot Bonus

There are no limits. WeeklyWinning.com allows you to determine how many chances you have to win each week - just the way it should be.

3.)Lack of information

There’s a common joke that says, “Gambling is a tax on the stupid.” Gambling or playing the lottery is not “stupid” - it does serve as entertainment value. But it does punish the uneducated.

If you don’t research the odds of winning and find the games that provide you the best chance of winning, then you’re more likely to throw your money away than if you do some research. More importantly, if you don’t know what to do with the money you do win then you’re even more likely to end up in a worse financial situation than before you started playing.

Make sure you spend time up front finding out as much as you can about the games you’re considering playing. Compare the odds and your chances of actually winning a cash prize. Also, educate yourself about your own personal budget and set a limit on the amount you’re willing to lose in pursuit of “entertainment”.

WeeklyWinning.com provides you with an exclusive membership area full of valuable information about the lottery and gambling industry. It also provides you with all the information you need to refer other players and earn unlimited chances to win. And for when you do win, we have a valuable report that helps you determine how to protect your winnings… and your financial future.

WeeklyWinning.com is so simple, so powerful, and so profitable for the players… it just makes sense. We look forward to making you a winner.

Have fun… play smart!

Satellite Better Than Cable?

Is Satellite Really Better Than Cable?

As the war in video entertainment continues, one thing is for sure: satellite television is here to stay.

When the satellite distributors first began marketing to consumers, the cable industry didn’t give their new opponent much thought. Dishes were expensive, they were bulky and their program offerings weren’t all that impressive. Cable on the other hand had been around for more than a decade and offered a familiar and reliable solution to home entertainment.

But oh how things have changed.

The satellite industry quickly replaced those bulky dishes with sleeker, smaller systems that could be mounted just about anywhere. Prices dropped, programming grew and pretty soon, switching from cable to satellite wasn’t such a far-fetched idea after all.

Today, the satellite industry enjoys a steady and continued growth in subscribers and services, gradually closing the gap in video entertainment market share. Where the cable industry has reported an annual growth between 10 to 15 percent, top satellite companies boast a market share increase of just under 30% according to a study from The Media Audit.

So is satellite really better than cable?

Satellite customers seem to think so. Studies show that satellite customers pay an average of $10 less per month than their cable counterparts. Satellite programming is also all-digital, meaning the reception and picture quality is much better than that of traditional analog cable. Cable subscribers do have the option of upgrading to digital but this incurs an additional monthly cost and doesn’t guarantee all the channels will be included in the upgrade. And, with the healthy dose of competition in the satellite industry, consumers can be assured of continued competitive pricing. Your cable provider doesn’t have any competition. Do you suppose that affects your rate increases?

Satellite subscribers also tout a higher satisfaction rating with customer service issues, one of the primary reasons cited for making the move from cable.

Article describes the ‘how tos’ of creating interesting and unique characters.
Without dialogue the novel becomes a travelogueinteresting, perhaps, but the endless descriptive content soon puts the reader to sleep. The characters live through their words, not their actions. In High Rise, Mike Calvert, is more than just an aging, burned-out cop. The novel starts out with the typical cop stereotype, but Kim transforms Mike from a one-dimensional cop to someone who is capable of love and commitment. Kim’s independence and competence draws Mike to her. Likewise, Mike’s offensive, four-letter words and male chauvinism, create the tension between the two protagonists. One wonders on one levelhow in the world can these two be attracted to one another? But during the middle of the book, the two begin to draw strength from each anotherMike relies on Kim to let go of his past fears of measuring up to his father (also a cop) while at the same time confronting his pending retirement and obsolescence. Kim draws upon Mike’s strength to confront her own vulnerabilitiesfear, insecurity, fear of failure.

The dialogue in the beginning might be offensive with a plethora of four-letter words. Throughout the book, the use of “babe” as a term of endearment, while offensive to some women (okay, maybe most) does not deter Kim from seeking closer understanding of this aging cop, going nowhere, and afraid of his future. Likewise, Kim uses “Hon” to engage Mike’s softer side, and not as a flippant expression of okay, I know you’re there.

After the explosion at Kim’s business in Round Rock, she expresses her first out-of-character remarks on page 138″Oh my God, Ron, Ron, Ron.” Her boss has just been dismembered in an explosion and she becomes the antithesis of everything female she abhorslack of control of her emotions. Her hysterical sobbing is interrupted by Mike’s interrogative style, not to appear uncaring, but to snap Kim back to reality with his simple question “Who can notify next of kin?” There was much work to be done and little time for grieving. A romance novel might have spent an entire chapter on these two exchanges, but a mystery thriller, is about plot and fast pacing. There was little time to exchange pleasantries; that would come later, as is typical with most couples: in the privacy of their bedroom where intimacies and vulnerabilities are freely reciprocated.

Kim’s leaving her father to return to Mike in Austin is but another example of a strong father nurturing his daughter. Beginning on page 228: “Daddy, I can’t believe it’s over.” “It is for now, honey . . .” “I can now go back to Mike. I miss him so much.” “I know you do, Kim. He loves you too. It’s time for you to go home now.” “I know, daddy. I’ll miss you.” “Me too, Kim.”

The above exchange comes after a harrowing pursuit of the mastermind killer and crazed surgeon. The tension all but leaves Kim after the gun fire, helicopters, high-speed chases, and near misses. One imagines Kim falling helplessly into her father’s arms, not knowing if she will ever see him again as she prepares to leave New Haven for Austin.

The final dialogue between Kim and Mike comes full circle to the secret of their attraction: playful repartee. Look at their final exchange in the book on page 246: “Well I’m sure you noticed Alexander’s wife in her low-cut dress.” (Kim) “Ah, yes. She was mighty proud of her new silicone implants. Gives new meaning to the word push-up.” “Mike you’re such a chauvinist.” “Hey, babe, I’ve spent a lifetime as a detective and I make it my job to be observant.” “Yeah, Okay, Mister Gantry. Tell me another one.” They laughed.

Characters come to life through their words. Relationships are defined by verbal exchanges. Good, tension-filled dialogue is what screenwriters dream for when adapting a novel to a screenplay. Scenes become alive and the characters, multi-dimensional. It’s difficult to write good, meaningful dialogue because the writer must assume the persona of each character and move into the first persona more daunting task than the omniscient, third-person, objective narrator.

For those of you interested in a good resource book, go to Writing Mysteries: A Handbook by the Mystery Writers of America, edited by Sue Grafton with Jan Burke and Barry Zeman, Writer Digest Books, 2002. There is an excellent chapter on “How to Write Convincing Dialogue” by Aaron Elkins.

The Creative Process of Writing is a Creative and Therapeutic Experience!

Everyone talks about the negative impact of the Internet on the music business. Illegal file sharing and copyright violations have decimated the profits in the industry. Record labels are less willing to take risks with new artists because the profits have dried up. Sales have steadily declined over the past several years to in large part to the proliferation of illegal downloads. All of that is true, but there are two sides to this coin. Sure, things are tougher today for the new musician than ever before, but there are also new opportunities thanks to the Internet.

The Internet has reduced the barriers to entry into the music business. Today thanks to the rapid evolution in technology, a musician can record a song and share it with listeners around the world. In the past, distribution was controlled by the record labels. Unless you had a record deal it was almost impossible to reach listeners outside of your immediate area.

Distribution was not only controlled, but there was no way around the high costs of physical distribution. Manufacturing a batch of CDs or tapes could be prohibitively expensive for the starving artist. However, with free MP3 distribution via the internet, an artist’s music can reach across the world. An up and coming Latin diva can share her tunes with someone in Europe. The next rock star in Africa can share his music with someone in Japan. The Internet has opened a door that allows artists to share their art with anyone, anywhere, at any time.

Now with online retailers like Amazon, artists can even market and sell their music themselves. Sure it’s tough and don’t expect to make much money. But singers and bands can share and sell their music without depending on a record label in ways today that were impossible a decade ago.

The Internet helps people connect. Music is a deeply personal experience and people have their own preferences in what they listen to. The Internet lets people who prefer a particular style to group together easier and allows them to talk about new artists that they never would have had the chance to hear otherwise.

Now, don’t get me wrong. Music is a tough business. With declining sales and tighter profits it is harder for anyone to make a living in the music business. However, if you have a good day job and you love to make music for the sake of the music itself, then the Internet can be an incredible enabler.

DirecTV and DISH Network Merger

By Gary Davis

Dish-Network-Satellite-TV.ws

Webmasters: You may reprint this article in its entirety,
providing you leave the Byline and About the Author sections
intact, including the links to Dish Network
Satellite TV.

It was in October 2001 that General Motors Hughes (Parent
company of Direct TV) and EchoStar Communications Corp., trader
of Dish
Network agreed to a merger. The new company would have
improved the services for satellite TV clients by adding many HDTV
channels and local channels would then be available to all satellite TV
viewers.

However, the US Department of Justice blocked the
merger.

Why did they do that?

  • The merger would create a monopoly
    position

When merged the new company would
serve all of the United States without any competition. As we
all know, competition spurs progress and a merger would
basically result in less progress. At the present time about 25
to 35 million homes do not have access to cable TV services.
Those people have the choice between 2 satellite TV
companies. The merger would reduce this to just 1 company, which
clearly is a monopoly position that is not allowed. Even in
areas with cable TV the merger would result in just 2 providers,
of which each has a monopoly on its own technology. Further,
EchoStar claimed that the merger was needed to be able to
compete against the cable TV Giants. However, satellite TV was
growing very fast while cable TV was loosing clients. Out of
every 3 new cable/satellite TV clients, 2 would go for satellite
TV.

  • EchoStars proposed self-regulation
does not compensate for the basic monopoly issues

EchoStar and Hughes promised local TV programming to all
210 TV markets. However, the day after this promise, EchoStar
asked the Supreme Court to overturn a law that required local
carriage. They said they had no intention to carry all channels
with the new company. At the time, local channels were available
in just 41 markets while the 2 companies together already had
the technology available to provide local programming in all 210
markets. A competitive market is more likely to speed up these
services than a self regulated monopoly.

A proposed national
pricing plan that would guarantee that prices would be the same
in both rural and urban areas was also not accepted as prices
could be set too high.

The merger would create a monopoly
position for broadband internet services.

In areas that are not served by DSL or cable, the only
alternative to broadband internet services is via satellite. The
merger would create a monopoly for broadband internet services
in these areas.

Over all it seemed that without any other
satellite TV providers a merger of the 2 companies was not
possible. The public’s interest was just not served by a merger
(or at least not enough).

Some markets just don’t have much
competition because of their nature. Satellites are expensive to
build, put into orbit and operate. The fact that there are 2
providers and not just 1 is a blessing for the public and
everyone can make a choice. Of course we at Dish-Network-Sate
llite-TV.ws believe that the choice is easy. Dish Network
Satellite is our preferred choice.
