  3. I've been roleplaying since I was a little itty bitty chld - I just didn't know I was doing it. I would take my friends in 2nd grade (age 7-8) to the woods and we would essentially LARP different characters with storylines that we'd improvise as stuff happened. I always wanted to play other characters, and whenever I was playing video games (even strategy games or city builders) I would always play from a standpoint of "so what would these people do in this situation", sometimes even voicing dialogues between characters I made up that were making decisions . When I got World of Warcraft I actually learned the term "Roleplaying". I always just thought everyone tiptoes the line between roleplaying & gameplay mechanics, and I was surprised by the amount of people who were not roleplaying - I had always assumed they were the minority, and that creating a background, personality, etc. for your character was commonplace. Luckily, the recommended server for me when I started playing was Darkmoon Faire [RP], so I was put in a roleplaying server before I had learned what that even meant, and eventually met people who guided my 14-year old self through the magical world of roleplay. I changed my character names from Silverspade to Syathin and Stormcloak to Lethys, joined a community called WoWGamer, founded an explorers & travellers guild called Wanderlust and a Night Elf civilian initiative called Shari'Adune, and the rest is history!
  4. Last update we talked about a huge overhaul of the Event Team for Guild Wars 2, and so far it has been a success! We've decided to expand on the successful formula, rounding out our selection of events. Clearing out the stagnant Black Desert area has also made room for some other game projects to push their way to the forefront! Guild Wars 2 As an addition to the update two weeks ago, we've expanded our event team with the RP Event Organizer team, rounding out the variety of events we provide in the community. We've also added the required structure to the Calendar, and added TeamSpeak tags and channels. New Event Team designation added: OpenCommunity Event Team Event Commander Triple Trouble Commander ( for Trainees) (NEW!) RP Event Organizer The RP Event Organizer team focuses on roleplaying events. While the commanders usually don't spend a lot of time speaking on Teamspeak, they can make use of the Team tools to prepare events, and the RP channels to taxi members into the event, or coordinate with each other while holding the event in-game. Additional notes: A new event category, "GW2 - Roleplaying Event", in lavender colours, has been added to the event calendar A Roleplaying subforum has been added to the Guild Wars 2 section Internal infrastructure has been updated to support the Event Team Commander Signups have been updated, now users can apply for the RP Event Organizer team Other Games With the release & popularity of Overwatch, we wanted to add a place for people to connect and play together. Also, Minecraft is happening. Channels added: The Overwatch channel has been added to the Let's Game section of the TeamSpeak, with subchannels - a Lobby for chatting and private rooms for playing with friends Minecraft: We've been talking about Minecraft for a very long time already, but things are finally moving in the direction of OpenCommunity acquiring a dedicated Minecraft server for our community members! A Minecraft-dedicated forum thread has been made to both inform everyone of our plans and evaluate interest. Miscellaneous At the end of Spring, we'll be adjusting the values of the basic Supporter badges to make them more accessible, and introducing new medium- and high-tier badges for the next season. Thanks to everyone who donated to the community and supported us so far! Supporter Badges Phasing Out: The Valiant and Heroic Supporter badges are being phased out with the end of Spring (June 20th) The Donation Page will be updated with new badges & perks on the 21st of June ~ Got any comments, questions, opinions, or suggestions? Share them below, or contact us via the Feedback function, or catch any staff member directly and tell us what you think!
  5. Heeeey ^^ Welcome to the forums, good to see you around these parts!
  6. Am locking this thread since we're all out of codes & interest in the game has declined ^^
  7. There is a thing I discovered - Overwatch isn't actually 60€ Overwatch actually costs only 40€, but the store defaults to a special edition, which contains some alternate skins for Overwatch heroes, icons for Starcraft II, a card back for Hearthstone, Tracer for HotS, etc. So if you're not interested in that stuff you can just buy Overwatch for 40€ ^^
  8. Loads of people are playing this game but NO ONE IS POSTING HERE ABOUT IT! I need to know if I should buy itttttt
  9. In order to provide a bit more clarity and transparency behind the changes in the community, we decided to start making posts like these, so that we can have a consistent way of conveying any news & changes to the community, as well as immediate plans for the future! Let's get right to it! Black Desert At release, we dove into Black Desert full force, reserving quite a large spot for it in the community in order to facilitate potential guilds or individuals joining our community. We approached it with open arms as opposed to just giving Black Desert players a small dusty corner in the community, and will most likely continue this approach with future MMOs. However, Black Desert's system doesn't really encourage social play the way Guild Wars 2 does. As such, it didn't really spark interest with our existing members. In order to make sure we're not cluttering the TeamSpeak and forums, we're moving Black Desert down to the Gaming Area. If activity or demand increases, we will restore Black Desert to its previous position. TeamSpeak: Black Desert has been moved into the Let's Game area as a single channel with subchannels Forums: The Black Desert forum has been moved, and is now a subforum of the Let's Game forum The "Community Member - BD" tag for Black Desert players will not be removed, and can still be used by future community members who want to show their Black Desert loyalty! Guild Wars 2 For a while now, we've been working on improving our Guild Wars 2 infrastructure and trying to find the perfect balance between a structured approach to internal event planning and an open approach for anyone who just wants to use our TeamSpeak for their own events. For a long time, there was just a bunch of confusing tags with similar roles and powers, and it was really not clear what was what. We've cleaned up our array of tags and established event-coordinating teams, so that no events are left behind. We also redistributed our moderators. Commander tags simplified: Instead of going through the changes, here's a short comprehensive list of the new tags: Commander Tag Anyone who wishes to command their own events on our TeamSpeak can acquire the Commander tag in the Guild Wars related channels. This tag does not come with any extra requirements or privileges, other than allowing others to see the commander in the channel. Commanders have no responsibility towards internally scheduled OpenCommunity events, and are only responsible for the events they plan themselves - if they wish, they can of course assist with the former as well OpenCommunity Event Team Event Commander The Event Commander team focuses on any world events, such as HoT map content, Tequatl, The Shatterer, Dry Top, Silverwastes, etc. There are no lengthy training requirements, and commanders can freely choose which - and how many - events they would like to coordinate. Triple Trouble Commander ( for Trainees) Triple Trouble Commanders is the designation for commanders who primarily focus on commanding Triple Trouble. As Triple Trouble is a complex event, and we use advanced TeamSpeak features, commander training is normally required for those who are new to commanding - which those with prior TT experience can skip. Triple Trouble commanders can also choose to work with Event Commanders if they wish. Additional guild-related tag: We wanted to give guilds additional power & shinies to play with inside of their own channels, and created a tag which Guild Leaders & Officers can assign within their own guild channel, giving someone who is neither a guild Leader or Officer some extra powers (this can be used however the guild desires). Guild Coordinator Those who coordinate guild missions or other private events, but are not Guild Leaders or Officers can make use of the Guild Coordinator tag within their guild channel for practical reasons - so that the person who is coordinating is sorted on top of the channel. This tag can also be used internally in the guild channels in any way the guild using it desires. You can read the full summary and descriptions of all GW2 related ranks here. Staff Designations: In order to accomodate the new structure, the following changes were made to the staff designations Commander Lead position split up into two separate positions Event Commander Lead oversees the Event Commander team Triple Trouble Commander Lead oversees the Triple Trouble team The full responsibility for scheduled events is only the priority of those two designations, and no longer a general Guild Wars 2 moderator requirement Moderator Sabina is taking on the role of Event Commander Lead Moderators Earl and Sithicus are now the two Triple Trouble Commander Leads You can read more about Staff designations, roles, and their holders here. Other notes: We have set up a new comprehensive system of Event coordination, including utilizing the forums and Discord with the Event Team. We've also performed a routine clean up of old inactive tags. Holders can speak to the appropriate Moderators to receive the tags upon their return. There is no penalty for losing one's tag to inactivity. They are restored after the individual speaks to one of the appropriate moderators, simply due to new bookkeeping and making sure we don't have a large number of inactive commanders. The Commander & Guild signups have been updated We are preparing an improved infrastructure for guilds as well, enabling them to better connect with one another and establish connections within the community As such, Moderator Dav will specialize as a Guild Manager in the coming days Inactive guilds have been receiving reminders for the past 2 months, and once the Guild infrastructure overhaul takes effect, we will clean up some guilds that we haven't heard from in a while Other Games It seems that something is cooking in Sourunji's cauldron of ideas. Ohoho. Stay tuned! What could it mean? No one knows. ~ Hopefully you liked this slightly different presentation of everything that's new! There was a lot to cover, but we got through it! Got any comments, questions, opinions, or suggestions? Share them below, or contact us via the Feedback function, or catch any staff member directly and tell us what you think!

Time for an update, I think!
  12. Moved the thread over to the GW2 area ^^ It's not scheduled for today, but if there are people who want to coordinate it impromptu, it can definitely happen ^^ Our event team is currently being set up to be able to deal with daily events a bit better in the future, but right now Dragon's Stand is only scheduled on Tuesdays ^^
  13. Welcome! Yay for Endless Legend love Also, totally just do what I did and quit your studies to focus on gaming Welcome to OpenCommunity, home of the best life choices!

  15. Please note that OpenCommunity is currently undergoing a restructure. These Policies and Guidelines may be out of date and will be updated soon! OpenCommunity's duties towards guilds Guilds within OpenCommunity still retain full independence, and OC shall not encroach upon their sovereignty The community has a duty to treat all guilds fairly and equally, and help protect the integrity of individual guilds Guilds are provided with information regarding all events organized within the community and are invited to take part in the organization themselves Guild Perks The guild can call our community their home, and get provided with their own spaces on both our TeamSpeak and website The guild gets a private TeamSpeak channel that belongs to them This channel can have subchannels, which can be passworded Guild Leaders & Officers (or equivalent) have moderation rights within that channel Users can be assigned guild tags on TeamSpeak to represent their guild when attending events Guilds can also use any of the following utilities: An infocard on our guild page, with a join button with an integrated application system, forum link, and custom page link A guild subforum Guild Requirements Guilds are required to follow community rules, even within their private channels Community guilds must be committed to OpenCommunity's message of positivity and creating a positive change in the video game community Guilds have to keep a line of communication with OpenCommunity (either through Guild Leaders, Officers, or other representatives), via the OC discord This is to make sure guilds are properly accommodated and represented within the community, as well as letting us know if a guild is disbanding or taking a hiatus. Community guilds should have an internal structure in place with which they can reliably inform their guild of upcoming major community events. Guilds should be aware they are representing the community even when not doing community events Guilds are NOT required to provide commanders or coordinate events in order to qualify as community guilds Members Community members may be in any number of community guilds at the same time Guilds are not allowed to prevent their members from joining another OC guild Community guilds watch each other's backs - warning each other of problematic members. Community guilds promise to deal with members internally after a complaint has been issued. Complaints are generally directed to a guild leader or officer, who can then resolve the issue internally. Community guilds shouldn't give their members special treatment before other OC members, including but not limited to: Giving members that have been banned from OC platforms covert access or ways to bypass bans Giving people a way around OC requirements for events, such as taxiing people through guild chat into a TS-only event

    Discord

We've looked into that possibility, and came to the following conclusion: not in the foreseeable future. The usability it has when it comes to voice communication is very limited, and its permission system is very basic compared to the extensive TS system. I don't imagine we'll be using it for voice for a while.
  17. If the escort you're talking about is the Rustbucket Escort event - you are right. It shouldn't be done by 10 people. But this has never been the case, so I don't know where you're coming from. Rustbucket & Beetles are notorious for scaling up horribly and they have always been done by 1 or 2 people maximum. I think you may be mixing up some of the tactics. The West events that the tag used to be up on in the old system were the Skritt Supplies & Inquest Suit, with a group of 5-10 people on the tag, and 1 or 2 people would be sent off to do Rustbucket & Beetles. Part of the distinction between West & Special has also been that the Special team waypoints a lot and micro-organizes itself, and essentially each member of it can do a separate event. Merging West with that could be confusing to people, and it would a way too large amount of events as a responsibility of one team, risking that events may not get done. You are welcome to provide workable suggestions or organize the event yourself.
  18. The team setup (West, East and Special) comes from before improved squads. The tactic was, you would tag up with 2 tags so that players (pugs) can see where to go, and they have a choice. We optimized the route for each tag individually, and then the special team was added as a party of 4 to 5 members that did all the other events. Also, even if the events are soloable, that still means you need to designate someone (and just 1 person, since some of them upscale very badly) to do them. Now we've just absorbed the Western squad into the Eastern one, so that we eliminate the need for 2 commanders, and assimilated the special team into the main squad as well, so that practically the entire map can be easily managed by 1 commander. I think due to the new squad mechanics, we could rethink the tactics for the map, perhaps having the main blob + 2 specialized teams of 3-5 people, with a liutenant each, one for each side.
  19. @Minithra OMG Dizzy I remember playing that on my old DOS computer ^^ What a silly game Aaaand here's another game I really like, that I haven't seen too many people talk about! Darkstone Darkstone is what I'd call one of the more successful Diablo clones of its time. It's a 1999 hack & slash RPG that was quite decent for its time ^^ Recently it became available on Steam but it is already slightly outdated. However, (dun dun DUNNNN) it has also been released for iOS & Android for FREE in 2014 so you can play it on your tablet or mobile device! I actually got it and I have to say I enjoy it quite a bit in its mobile version. And so far I haven't really encountered any microtransactions that would prevent progress unless you were willing to pay money. Overall, it's a fun little RPG with an ok storyline that isn't really that complex or riveting, cool spells and some interesting puzzles. I'd say there's actually a few more puzzle elements than in Diablo 1 or 2, or the newer counterpart, Path of Exile. The game also has a couple of variants in which it generates its world, so it has some degree of replayability. Overall it's pretty fun. I don't know if I'd recommend it for PC, but I would definitely recommend trying it out on Android / iOS, and it has some good reviews there as well! As a mobile game, it's definitely one of the best RPGs out there (probably because it wasn't developed as a mobile game and thus didn't have all the annoying microtransaction stuff in it). Available on: Steam (5€) GoG (5,19€) Android / iOS (free) Oh, also, when it came out, it came with this pretty cool & catchy song & video. And the song would play in-game if you paid a bard in the village a gold coin
  20. The official tactic we always did was Town (1 veteran) -> North Mine -> Town (if it's still up). What happens is pugs will clean out the rest of the town event, while the people who are listening can move out and already assist in the mine. Because everyone killed one of the three veterans they'll get participation The reason we don't just go into the North Mine first is because pugs will always do the town event, so getting at least one veteran with everyone means everyone gets participation ^^

    Discord

Hey ^^ Like Sithicus said, right now we are using Discord for event coordination and staff discussions, but we are definitely looking at the possibility of having a public Discord server as well ^^ It definitely looks like it could be a very useful thing to have We're also looking at ways it could be integrated into our forums, so people could easily access it from the sidebar and not have to deal with navigating several pages at once or having to run extra applications =) So there's definitely exciting times ahead for fans of Discord!
  22. You know I'm surprised this one's never been on any of our music bot extravaganza nights
