OpenCommunity Charity Fundraising Month - Cybersmile!

Yes! -
Hi everyone! The day of OpenCommunity's first birthday is fast approaching, and celebrations are definitely in order! In conjunction with our birthday, we are also celebrating OpenCommunity's first charity fundraising month. Throughout the entirety of April, culminating on the Community Weekend, we are giving out 50% of all donations OpenCommunity receives to The Cybersmile Foundation, a non-profit organization dedicated to fighting cyberbullying and making the internet a better, safer place for everyone! So what is the Community Weekend? The Community Weekend celebration is a two-day event packed extravaganza of crazy, fun events, challenges, competitions, and some good old fashioned world boss slaying! All regularly scheduled events are off for the two days, and are instead replaced with Quaggan Hunts, Hide & Seek, Fashion Wars, and more! When/where does it happen? The event happens on the 16th and 17th of April, Saturday & Sunday! We start at 13:00 CEST with a Tequatl & Triple Trouble sandwich, and continue from there! You can join us at any time during the day, hop onto our TeamSpeak (ts.theopencommunity.org) and join in with the fun! The even is held on our TeamSpeak, with individual events sometimes being led in-game in Guild Wars 2, or out of game. What kind of events are there? Are there any requirements to join? Will there be prizes? There are all kinds of events happening (see full schedule below). We do our best to serve a mixed bag of all sorts of events, so that everyone gets to participate in something fun! We plan out the events so that they require minimal amounts of world exploration, setting locations in Lion's Arch or racial capitals, or areas adjacent to those! Coming on a level 80 character is recommended, but for most events it is not required! And yes! There will be prizes! Lots and lots of shiny prizes! Additionally, we have a few events this time around which don't happen in Guild Wars 2 - either in another game or on TeamSpeak itself. Are there any forum-based events as well? Yes! We are going to hold a screenshot competition throughout the entire weekend! Best screenshot taken at any of the weekend events wins! Before the events start, we'll open a thread where people can share their screenshots! The contest will close on the 22nd, five days after the Community Weekend, so that everyone has time to go through their screenshots and find the best one! Soon after, the winner will be announced! So what's the event schedule? Here is the full event schedule. More information on individual events can be found below. OpenCommunity Charity Fundraising Month - Cybersmile!
Lelling posted a topic in News & Announcements
Hello, everyone! So most of you already know that OpenCommunity is completely funded by players - our server, website, TeamSpeak, etc. is all covered by donations given to us by players like you! We are enormously thankful for all the support we've received, and wanted to give something back to the online community. That's why in the month of April we are giving HALF (50%) of all donations we receive to The Cybersmile Foundation! Here's a short excerpt from their website: "The Cybersmile Foundation is a multi award winning anti cyberbullying non-profit organization. Committed to tackling all forms of digital abuse and bullying online, we work to promote diversity and inclusion by building a safer, more positive digital community." You can read more about Cybersmile on their website. For the duration of the fundraising event, we've designed new Supporter badges to give out as a form of recognition for those who support us with substantial donations, and our friend & artist Meta "Wolfie" Snedic has pledged to support us by drawing free character portraits for all Heroic Supporters, no matter how many there are. You can check out all the donation perks on our brand new donation page. We are more than happy to support Cybersmile and the work they do to make the internet a better, safer, and more fun place for all, and hope to continue that work ourselves as well! Thank you again for your support, we wouldn't be here doing what we're doing without you! ~the OpenCommunity staff Links: https://www.cybersmile.org/ http://www.theopencommunity.org/donate/ -

Surprisingly enough, the event still seems to succeed! ~ The Three-Headed Great Jungle Wurm terrorizes the jungle! But we're ready to terrorize it back! The Vigil Crusaders are ready and waiting for the armies of Tyrian heroes to march into the Wurm's domain and slay the giant creature. The Triple Trouble event is a fast-paced, high-intensity event where three teams must coordinate their efforts to slay the three heads of the Wurm at the same time. Due to the large number of split-second decisions, TeamSpeak is required. No experience with the event is required, all tactics & mechanics are explained beforehand.
